Car recommendations

Your dad invent mondeos or summat?

Nope and hopefully I will never buy another one. But if I found myself with a couple of grand tops for a car I wouldnt waste my time looking at shonky interesting stuff I'd just get a decent Mondeo.

Only jokin, after all that trashin of mondeos, I found this on AT:

I'm stickin to my guns about not wantin to look I'm driving my dad's car but that does look like a lot of decent car for that price, bit dodgy being so cheap? Also it says open 7 days a week til midnight, I'm not goin buyin a second hand car from some back street garage at half 11 on a sunday night.

That seems a bit cheap. You'd get a good one in your budget, though.

I'm sure you'd rather be driving something really awesome, just like I'd rather be driving an M5, but sometimes our budgets rule out what we really want.

Why does it say its a "2000 VOLVO C70 2.0 T 2dr Convertible"?!

dunno but there's a lot like that, I assume its because it costs to put an advert on and then if it sells the advert is still live that you can edit descriptions pictures etc. but not the title?

If you're referring to the one posted above - it's over £2k as it is, the budget stretches to £3k, how much more is an uprated model gonna set him back? :(

i am, my mate bought the 170hp 2001 for £1850 in silver. Same spec just have a sat nav, black leathers, and has a better traction control system.

This thread is pretty hilarious...

Lol BD10NNF for a start...

Anksta - as has been said already, for £3k tops you cant afford to be picky and expect something interesting and exciting. If you want something exciting/interesting for that money, expect it to cost a lot more to run than something like a Mondeo. You need to decide what your priorities are as you're going to need to accept a few compromises.

Mondeo's perfectly suited to your needs, they drive well for a car of their size, are well equipped and arent exactly ugly. There's loads of tidy looking 2. Zetecs about for that money too - I'd try to get over your prejudice and have a closer look.

If not, Focus

lol at me why? he did get a 2001 V5 (VR5) 170 i should know hes been giving me a lift to work in it.

and £1850 is below £3000

im not saying get it. just that the 1 he has said is pap compared to the other V5

I was more referring to the pages of tripe about the Yaris

Anyway, Toledo's not a bad idea to be honest, although I'd probably go for a 1.9TDI instead due to the mileage

well on the 150hp the traction control only works up to 30mph then it goes off whereas in the 170hp its either on all the time or you press the button to switch it off. that the only difference and that the 150hp has a tape player whereas the 170hp has sat nav

Oh I see! Never realised that, cheers.

So what, it's an FWD Seat the only time you need traction control is when pulling away. It's not going to be lighting its tyres up in 3rd is it.

Traction control turns off over 30mph? Surely that's quite dangerous, what if it's frosty or wet?

its still a better traction control system cause what it you want it off. You cant turn it off in the 150s

and i know its daft thats why they probably changed it

I thought the two different types of VAG Systems are ASR and ESP.

The ASR system includes ABS / TCS

The ESP system includes ABS / EBD / EDL / TCS

Its an interesting point because i've never heard of the older of the two systems (ASR) only working up to 30mph, also all the golf's / seats i've seen with simply ASR have a switch on the dash.

I've tested both the VAG systems, but not in a Seat, this is why i made sure someone ticked the ESP option on mine, not because it contains better Traction control, both are the same, but because it includes the Stability Program and an Electronic Diff.

Traction Control isn't quite stability control...

TCS will still stop wheel slip regardless of speed, it just wont sort you out if you start going sideways.

BD10NNF - you seem to have a habbit of derailing threads - first the thread about chipping a diesel chrysler turned into a random discussion about Yarises and now a spec me thread has turned to a random discussion about Yarises (spotting a pattern here) and the difference between TCS systems in a car the OP might not even be interested in.....
