*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

After over 20 years of using Turtle Wax Wax It Wet I was given a half used AG Aqua Wax to try and I prefer it... But not at £15 a pop.

Does anyone know if the AG Professional Express Wax is the same stuff?

At £40 for 5L that would be even less than Wax It Wet and I don't mind dispensing from a 5L container as my wife has me doing that with everything from shower gel to washing up liquid anyway :p

Edit - answered my own question as it seems they are quite open about the fact. Also going to get the trade size rapid detailer (shine and lube). When I use up my stock of shampoo and wheel cleaner I'll do the same with those. Should have gone this route years ago :o

What is it you’re trying to achieve? Maybe I can recommend something :)

Didn't get to try the AG snow cannon, had previously pre-mixed ~2L of BH touchless in garden sprayer from doing (removed) wheels and that was surprisingly adequate to do whole body,
after fixing pressure washer used that - Karcher right angle lance was useful for wheel arch lip/liner
Auto-finesse lather from a bucket too.

To be honest I'm mainly trying to rationalize my car cleaning stuff down. I've got all sorts that I've picked up because it was; cheap, I forgot I already had some, it was the latest snake oil etc.

I received the 5L AG Express Wax today so will decant that 500ml at a time into a spray bottle.

Then all I really need is detailing spray and shampoo. Wheel cleaner I've got stacks of for some reason :o Turtle Wax, AG, Simonize... Again I think I just picked them up cheap as I saw them.

Ideally I'll get down to 5L of Express Wax, Detailer, Shampoo and Wheel Cleaner (probably AG for all as I like their stuff). Plus a small AG SRP, solid carnauba wax and soft top cleaner. I really don't need anything else and it will help tidy up the garage a bit.

Edit - and tar remover, clay and glass cleaner ... Urgh, starting to remember how I got myself into this mess in the first place :p

Do you need to carry clay 'in stock'? I tend to use bilt hamber but will only order as and when required. Tar Remover, get yourself some Tardis and just decant, a bottle will last a good few years...

What is it you need the detailing spray for?

Shampoo wise, I’d be getting Bilt Hamber Auto Wash if you don’t mind it not having many suds, or Car Chem 1900:1 super suds shampoo. Specifically super suds.

Nope, but I have got a G3 Clay mitt already that I picked up cheap a few years ago. Do you see a trend forming here? :p I've been using AG Intensive Tar Remover and was given another unopened botte of that from an old boy who was clearing out his garage so I should be set for a while but I'll give Tardis a look when I need to buy more as I've heard it mentioned several times now.

Detailing spray I just use for insides of doors etc. when drying off the car. Also use it for my bikes (bicycle not motor) and sometimes I'll just spritz the MX-5 with it after a run out as it doesn't really get dirty on a 20 mile summer run.

At the moment I'm using AG Shampoo and it is really slick compared to what I was using. Then again that was just a bottle of TripleWax wash and wax that, wait for it.... I picked up in the discount bin. I'll look into your suggestions though, thanks.

For a detailing spray, you could use Bilt Hamber Auto QD. It’s nice. Lasts as well as you dilute it.

I was looking at getting some hard wax like collinite for bicycle frames - BB area/stays take a lot of aggressive weather/salt (need a new repaint on my 531)

I got one a couple of months ago and it's been a revelation. I can clean both cars in the time it took to do one.
I love it in this cold weather, it's rubbish drying a cold car and all the effort usually ruined the next day lol.
Just rinsed and walked away.

Think I'm going to get a little water meter, just to keep and eye on the usage.

Can somebody recommend a really good winter pre-wash snow foam, I want to remove as much filth as I can with jet wash so that I don't have to get a 'mit' on the car (realistically I do realise I can't do this all 'hands off')

Might be a biased opinion but I’ve always found Bilt Hamber auto foam to be really good. I did my car yesterday, was caked in salt and dirt and not much was left afterwards. The new touchless is meant to be good as well, can’t go wrong either way imo.

But I haven’t used any other snow foam myself, so it’s just an opinion :)

I have ran out of Autoglym interior shampoo and has been my go to interior cleaner because it is very mild and I like the smell. It used to be £5 a bottle but just seen now it is £9 for the same.

Anyone recommend anything bulk that is good and mild?

I don't want anything abrasive. I learnt my lesson with G101 on interior plastics.

I gave up on snow foam because it is such a PITA getting the pressure washer out and then tying myself up in knots with the high pressure hose, low pressure hose and extension cable. A lot of this would eb solved by having a longer high pressure hose but I was wondering if a cordless pressure washer would do a decent ish job with snow foam application?

I'd seen the Worx one but all my cordless stuff is Einhell so I'd be looking at one of these if it will do the job - https://www.einhell.co.uk/p/4140135-hypresso-18-24-1/

I'm assuming that this won't have enough oomph but would be pleased to be told otherwise.

I stopped at a garage jet wash on Friday just to blast the crud off as my numberplates were unreadable and it was frozen solid underfoot. I could actually propel myself along with the blast from the jet wash :D

Why not get an IK Sprayer? :-) The larger ones
