Career In The Army part 2 (Hopefully)

They ask you for history of any disease in your family, heart conditions etc. When you have been off work, any surgery you have had, medication you've been on. Its a two part thing, you fill in the 1st half, then the rest you take to your GP were they ask for a lot more detailed information about your medical history. I had a special note on my talking about the problem I had with my hip joint that caused me to be discharged in the first place.

Also, if you wear glasses, there is a 2 page questionnaire which you have to take to your opticians.
Aha. Cheers!

I only ask in case I join as there is quite a history of cardiovascular disease on my dad's side but fortunately I'm free of it - but if the GP can explain this all is well :)

I'm not sure what I'd do about glasses - my left eye is buggered and I have really poor vision from it. But I don't wear glasses anymore. Ah well... all in good time. Need to get fit and lose weight before I could even think about signing up!

Update:
Ive filled in what i can on the medical forms and the rest i handed in yesturday to my doctor so now its just a matter of time:)

Its all happening really fast i was expecting to wait a month or so for my medical forms after filling out my application form, but i only had to wait a week:eek::)

From my experience everything went through really quickly :)

I hope you're at the gym training in your spare time!

I loved the overnight selection, the team tasks on the second day were so much fun. Just make sure you're vocal (in a loud clear manner) and contributing.

Don't put your hands in your pockets!

They're quite desperate at the moment so will be rushing things (it doesn't mean you're more likely to get in, they'll just rush it).

You applying as officer or grunt?
What regiment?

(apologies if you've already said)

Cool cool. Don't want to sound annoying though, but that part of the application process doesn't take long at all. What does take a while though is the length of time the medical forms take to get processed. I've just come back from the AFCO and I was told that mine should be ready in the next two weeks or so. They got sent off to the review board about 4-5 weeks ago, so they wont be rushed though even though they are quite desperate.

When they have been reviewed they can go a number of ways:
1) Accepted, they will email your recruiter who will then get back to you to arrange an interview.

2) Require more information. They will email the recruiter and send him some forms which will be passed onto you to take to your GP, this can add a few weeks onto the application process.

3) Unsuitable. This could either be permanent, or could be a few months depending on the reason.

Once your accepted on medical grounds you will go for an interview to discuss your job choices in further detail, and have an arranged date set for you to go to a selection centre, this will be about 2 or so weeks after your medical acceptance.

This is when the dates can vary vastly depending on your trade choice. Infantry can be sorted within a few weeks and you would be off to ITC Catterick. If your job is more specialised however you could have to wait for anything up to a few months, possibly till April next year when the new recruitment term starts.

Hope this clears things up for you a bit dude. Good luck with it all :D

Ah that's cool then. I want to get in ASAP myself heh. If I have to wait a +4 months to get into the Royal Signals, I may just join infantry, then in a few years transfer to the Signals. Totally sick of Civvy Street now lol.

I hear its very very hard to get a transfer but good luck though.

Im still waiting, but i knew id be waiting for a while, but hey i dont mind i get to see my friends for a while longer:)

My advice is not to join the army. Do you really want to put your life on the line for questionable conflicts because the politicians that send you there are to spineless to go themselves?

If you want to defend the rights of our country then you need an army.

I have the utmost respect for anybody willing to put their life on the line for this cause, and so should you.

**** off

When/if the time comes those same soldiers will be back at home deffending your own homes and land keeping invaders out while you are tucked up under your desk crying for help.

Just because they get sent some where that you dont like doesnt mean they joined up for that purpose alone.
The Military get used for all sorts of things and help in lots of situations.

Obviously not now, but as politicians in the governing party I feel it would be a big plus point for the ministers to have served in the armed forces.

It's not too hard to get a transfer, but the way things have panned out I will probably end up waiting for the Royal Signals anyways, just getting my partying done with all my mates and freshers lol. Having an awesome week so far, so the next few months should be great fun, so I'm not in a Major Rush yet lol.

Why i want to join the army:
Something ive always wanted to do!
Make true friends
Have a purpose.
Have some stories to tell.

Explantion on above:)

Something ive always wanted to do: Since i was a kid playing with my toy soldiers and up to now ive always had respect for the british army, ive always agreed with every action they do thats been in the public eye. And will respect them now and into the future.

Make true friends: These guys will be the best mates ive ever had and i would die for every single one of them and vise-versa after everything we go through together therell be an everlasting bond.

Have a purpose: I work in a warehouse, wheres theres no job satisfaction im making no difference. The only one i can think of is if im packing toys, that could be for some childs bday/xmas and thats it really. Then i go see friends have a good time with them. I go holiday 2-4 times a year which i enjoy. And thats what its gonna be like to retirement then death.
Sure lifes a journey and i could end up in different, but similiar jobs, hell i could end up getting married and a family. But i think id go mad if i knew thats what life is gonna be for me.
In the army my actions will make a difference, ill be representing my country when im not in mine. And damn will the life be exciting, scary, sometimes horrible but it wont be dull!

Have some stories to tell: i want to be like abriham simpson telling all thoes whackey stories obviously without the son homer:p

O shut up, how about our right to live? As this country runs out of cheap energy i bet you will be one of the first people to moan about where the next few millions barrels of oil is coming from.
