Career in the Forces? (IT Related)

Passed Fitness test today so Im hopefully not far behind Touge on the intake dates.

Ill find out my dates on Wed/Thursday

Looking forward to it, although their desperation to get people in makes me worried why so many people are leaving lol

A lot of reasons why people want to leave, in my opinion the main reasons are:

Some of the trades are in decline therefore lesser opportunities for promotion. A lot of guys I know are stuck at SAC/SAC tech/Jnr tech with no hint on promotion despite sound reviews for the last 7 or 8 years.

Then there are the moaners, which again there seems to be a lot of; generally these tend to be the guys who join up straight from uni/college/school and never worked a dull or tough job in their life. They then whine all the time about their jobs, PVR, get into civvy street and then really see what a **** job is like. A lot of them don't really see how easy they have it in the forces.

This is why it is imperative you are sure the job is for you because if you're not going to be happy they really don't want you there.

Some good points made there mate. The approach Im taking is that Ill base my own opinions on my own experiences there. I dont need negative moany people bringing my morale down :)

Ive had it in a number of jobs ive had. People moaning about how terrible it is and how good it used to be etc, but I wont know any different so ill ignore their rambling and take each day as it comes.

Cardiac hill? We heard of that but they said it was up in the hills where they now never take you.

Pressups in the mud are excellent.

Trick bear in mind that most people here are joining as Airmen, therefore a lot of your advice re: Cranwell and IOT might be a bit out of place.

:edit: So you're Thompson intake then Begbie?

Just a general question to the people that joined recently, why the RAF? just curious. I was originally going to join the RAF but ended up in the Army (albeit doing the same Job).

softer - pah just better educated! :p

Always had a love for flight. Dont really know why appeals to me more than any other force.

Just had day 9 inspection, drill test on Wed. Certianly goes in quick and flights getting a great bond. Loving it :)

I'm still undecided between army and RAF for once i finish my degree. The RAF sounds like i would have a better chance of a commission after a few years in the lower ranks, where as in the army i would have to be a WO. The army though has quite a bit more info about itself, unlike the RAF. Also the army seems to have a lot more 'tradition', like the whole Mr Vice thing i have been reading about that happens at big mess dinners, and they certainly love their port too :p

Depends entirely what you want to do really... they're quite different.

Oh and as for Begbie being on the internet at Halton, I can safely say they do not provide internet through a wireless network :D

Almost certainly using a mobile broadband stick.
