carling cup football thread 22-23 *spoilers*

For me the Carling Cup now is more of a priority (so to speak) than the FA Cup

At least with the Carling Cup there's the excitement of seeing the younger players in a big stage whereas the FA Cup games up until the Semi Finals are just a nuisance, a bore and detract from the priority competitions (Premiership & Champions League). I guess in a way it's shame that the FA Cup has reached that for supporters of the bigger clubs but the way of the times I guess.

Alas I reckon our team will be...

GK: PIG

RB: Neville
CB: Brown
CB: Evans
LB: De Leat (hope he gets the nod over Fabio)

RM: Welbeck
CM: Gibson
CM: Carrick (needs to get his confidence going again)
LM: Nani

CF: Macheda
CF: Owen

Owen to score a couple after Sundays game :)

Considering who we played against Everton in the semi final last season, I wouldnt be surprised to see majority of same players in both competitions (baring injury of course)

Fabio is a great player (and so is his brother, although Raf is a little questionable in defence), but he still needs a run of games which for me is why he needs to be ahead of De Leat, Im also wondering if we have another centre half as I wouldnt want to risk Johnny Evans in the CC, given that we are (maybe?) going to be playing every few days for the next little while - excl the int break), and he was already injured with his ankle / trying to avoid an opperation

Really not sure about Gibson, but if he is ever going to get a chance then this year / this comp is it. The FA Cup semi he seemed totally bewildered.

I would also be tempted to start Welbeck upfront with Kiko....although after his heroics maybe MO deserves a start....

Valencia needs a good run of games also , his sub appearance on Sunday might indicate he might start tomorrow...although I agree Nani needs to play also

Liverpool 11: Cavalieri, Degen, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Dossena, Aurelio, Spearing, Mascherano, Riera, Babel, Ngog.

Not really sure how we'll line up; with Dossena Aurelio and Riera in the same team the only thing I can think of is a 4-3-3 with Aurelio play CM.

Wojciech Szczesny (19)

Kerrea Gilbert (22)
Philippe Senderos (24)
Mikael Silvestre (c) (32)
Kieran Gibbs (19)

Jack Wilshere (17)
Francis Coquelin (18)
Aaron Ramsey (18)
Armand Traore (19)

Sanchez Watt (18)
Gilles Sunu (18)

Subs
James Shea
Kyle Bartley
Craig Eastmond
Emmanuel Frimpong
Mark Randall
Nacer Barazite
Carlos Vela

So either a 4-4-2 in that formation, or 4-3-3 with JW pushing forward.

Why's Vela not starting? He can't seem to get into the 1st team so it seems weird he isn't in the cup team, unless he's just back from injury?

I remember hearing good things about Barazite a while back, but no idea whether that means he's worth looking out for. Glad to be of help.

Seems like the club is starting to mould Ramsey into a Flamini-style DM. Could work, so I'm interested to see how he does.

Szczesny should be a good keeper. Coquelin and Frimpong will be good CM, Bartley should be a good CB, big things are hoped for Watt. They are the ones with the biggest chance of being the next saviour etc.

Kerrea Gilbert
James Shea
Kyle Bartley
Mark Randall
Nacer Barazite

All have no hope of making the Arsenal first XI.
