Carling Cup Quarter Final Games - **Spoilers**

I would say Lucas' rise to first team regular has coincided with Liverpool's fall from grace over the past two seasons.

Lucas has been Liverpool's Darren Fletcher for a lot longer than 2 years, seems like he's put in MOTM performances against us at Anfield for around 4 years now

Given Fletcher's fitness problems and poor form prior to that though I'd say Lucas is probably ahead of him now. Lucas or Scott Parker is a good debate though....

Lucas is better than Parker and they're both considerably better than Fletcher. It's actually laughable that you'd even try to compare Fletcher with him.

edit: Shelvey's been recalled from his loan spell at Blackpool and Suarez has tweeted something about being strong to Lucas. More or less confirms the Lucas news.

Says the totally impartial Liverpool fan ;)

When Fletcher was at his best he easily matched Lucas' in your face style of play and actually contributed in an attacking sense as well. Like I said it's hard to compare the two now given Fletcher's last good season for us was the 09-10 season, people forget just how good Fletcher was in the big games for us between 2006-2010

Also disagree that it's as cut and dried as Lucas being better than Parker as well, for one I cant see Lucas almost single handily getting Liverpool results like Parker did for West Ham last season and now at Spurs with more emphasise on holding he's easily matching Lucas' work rate and ability to break up opposition attacks. Given the roles both have now I'd rate them both the same

Onto a more Carling Cup related note of this evening...

It seems Valencia & Kiko are 100% starters, and I'd imagine Mame Biram being a starter too and wouldn't surprise me if Berbatov was on.

I think Rafael is pretty shoe in to get a game, Smalling is coming back from injury so I think he will be in there too and Fryers at LB, Evans in CB with Smalling I think.

Midfield I think Park will probably get a game as well, possibly in the centre with Mame or Kiko out wide and I don't think Morrison or Pogba will start, which is a shame but I don't see it happening.

Fergies said he will be making huge changes and the squad will be different but I dont think it will be *that* different really.

Pretty sure Fergie said Morrison will be on the bench at least. Although not guaranteed to be correct a lot of pre match reports expect Pogba to start

I reckon something like this;

------------Lindegaard------------
Rafael--Smalling--Evans--Fryers
Valencia---Park---Pogba---Diouf
---------Berbatov--Macheda-------

Seeing Pogba and Morrison will be the only worth while reasons to watch tonight's game, expecting a tight 1-0 win or we go out

He said it's possible that he will be on the bench at least, not that he will be.

He said Pogba was 'an option' but we will see. He didn't name that they would play like he did Fryers, the twins etc. I think they need game time definitely.

Looks like Lucas is out for the rest of the season :(

Nothing confirmed yet but a journo tweeted earlier today that Lucas told him that he fears he'll be out for 6 months (this was pre-scan) and a lad on RAWK that regularly gets team news early has just said that he's had his scan and he'll be out for 6-9 months.

Hopefully the reports are wrong but I suspect they're right and it'll be a huge blow. He's gradually developed into a top class player over the last 2 to 3 seasons.

Gonna need another midfielder come Jan now =/ Gerrard's injured too often nowadays, Henderson's unproven and most likely will suck as the holding player. Spearing's just not unto the same standard, not even close, and Jonjo is more of a emerging Gerrard style player rather then a traditional CM.

Leaves Adam, who has been playing much better lately by being able to do more then just sit, so i cringe at the thought of Adam being our holding player going into the second half of the season

As expected then really. Thought Fryers might get a start but other than that all as usual.
