Carrick Out?

I know what you mean, but unfortunately though, the top part of the club won’t change any time soon, so the only thing we can really have a proper opinion on is what manager may/may not work in the current circumstances we find ourselves in.

I think for me it is:

1. Conte
Just very curious at seeing him in action with our quality of players, Rashford will cry and Dalot may never resurface again. :D

2. Nagelsmann
An unknown for me. Could be a stroke of genius, but the situation could just completely overwhelm him and he resigns.

3. Howe
Safe, may help get us to a reasonable level before we move on to a more exciting / quality manager in the long run. But I can’t get excited about it and it sets the tone of us being a ‘mid-table club’ rightly or wrongly as we are that in reality these days, at least performance and squad-wise.

Not going to happen

Emery
Would be the best to bring in. But will never happen.

Pochettino
Have a soft spot for the guy, think he’d be a good signing.

Glasner
I think he’d genuinely work, just a gut feeling, but no chance.
For sure, everyone has their right to an opinion :)

Why are people saying "get x in and spend big in January". We're broke, and there's never any value in January. It also doesn't help that we seem to spend unwisely with whatever money we do have.

Why is Nagelsmann better? The EPL is not the Bundesliga and Howe has a really good record in the EPL. He might not be the long term solution but who is?

They need to spend regardless of the manager.

Not having a pop at you ProStreet but I think a lot of Untied fans are delusional/confused/blind to reality. There is no quick fix here and it's an impossible job. Who can succeed when the issues stem from the top down?
Well its either Howe or Nagelsmann, as Utd wont pay a release clause (although reports are Howe has one..).

Howe wont get respect from the players. Nagelsmann at least has managed top players at Bayern. Yes its a risk but rather take a risk over safe Howe.

Yes the issues are top down - Wilcox needs to go before anyone else but we know its not going to happen. Trust me - i live and breath Utd and know the issues.

Imo I think we need a complete reset. Defense is gone. Midfield needs a rebuild after the rebuild. We need a striker and got no money especially next season when we wont be in Europe. Its the worst its ever been imo, as we really could have pushed on this season if we spent right. Midfield signings have been SHOCKING.

Agree with your assessments of the managers there @Converge

I would add that no matter what manager they go for, the board need to change how they're operating. They must improve as well.

Shame Poch isn't available (probably) as I'd prefer him to Howe.

To be honest I don't think anyone is blind to reality, but it's not an impossible job either, just a very complicated one.

The people who say we have a good squad are.

On paper we might have an OK squad but unfortunately we play on the pitch, not on paper.

It's a mid table squad with amateurs in charge. And I don't mean Carrick.

Disagree, it's definitely an impossible job.

Wasnt Poch a serial non-winner?

Howe has managed to get more than the sum of the parts hasn't he? At multiple clubs?

The squad is flawed, particularly with these injuries, but with a good manager it's not that bad. It's stronger than last season when it finished 3rd. OK yes, lots of caveats, but it still happened.

He's won more than Howe I think... admittedly at PSG, but still.

I think we can only really focus on his time at Newcastle, and overall I think he did well, but this is a different beast (and not in a good way).

Absolutely no guarantee Poch would be better either, I just like him. :p

It wasnt an impossible job in the summer. We could have bought 1 top midfielder, a left back and a striker, let go rashford, and we would be in a complete difference situation right now.

PSG... Come on, really!

Howe (;)) can you ignore this:

retiring from the professional game in 2007. He entered management the following year, taking charge of a Bournemouth side facing relegation to the Conference National (now National League) in January 2009 as the youngest manager in the Football League.[3] Under his guidance, Bournemouth were able to avoid relegation during his first season in charge, having started the season on minus 17 points, and were promoted to League One the following campaign.

After a brief spell as manager at Burnley, Howe returned to Bournemouth, and led them to two further promotions in three seasons, taking them to the top division of English football. He was subsequently named Football League Manager of the Decade in 2015 following three promotions in a seven-year period.[4][5] Bournemouth survived in the Premier League for the next five seasons under Howe, before suffering relegation to the Championship in 2020. He resigned as manager of Bournemouth after the club's relegation.

He even has lower league experience for when we get relegated. I jest but let's not take anything away from what he did at Bournemouth.

If we lose to chelsea on Saturday we could be in the drop by the end of the weekend. Imagine if city and utd both get relegated the same season - that would be NUTS.

Regardless, we can all agree Howe is better than Carrick, and it's not even close.

I'm hoping for some sort of announcement in the morning on Carrick, this can't go on.
I honestly think the players wont respect him. This group is rotten, you need a top tier manager. At least amorim had some balls to get rid of rashford. All went wrong when he came back..

I think they should go all out for Emery. Everyone has a price.

Personally I'd hate for Howe to sully his reputation there, I'm not convinced he'd succeed at a club so big. He feels a bit one dimensional and was often found wanting when his preferred high intensity style either wasn't working, or it was post-Christmas and the players were knackered. His triple 67th minute substitute when behind each week was as predictable as it was ineffective. He was massively outplayed in all but one of the Champions league games. He'd also presumably bring "Mad Dog" Tindall with him. I'm sure we could dig up a few posts on him by the Utd fans :D

I was listening to Nicky Butty earlier, he raised a point that he thinks Ashworth got the elbow because he wanted to bring Howe in ahead of Amorin. If that's the case then if he is brought in then surely it's the end for Wilcox, if there is no intention of Wilcox leaving then there's likely no scenario that brings in Howe.

Everyone does have a price but the issue with Emery is that I don't think he would come unless he got more control over various other positions outside the managers role. Those roles are currently being done by people who would both be responsible for hiring him and also the roles he would be replacing/taking power away from.

Howe for me.

We need a manager that can work with zero money. The only reason we were able to spend before was because of the injection from INEOS. Trying to finance a new stadium is just going to cripple us for years. What we should be doing is poaching the best minds from Brighton and Brentford and making the best of that. We as a club are still living in the dark ages.

Yeh I would like to see Howe in.

However, would he take the job?

Safe to say it's not worked for all the managers post Fergie and there is far more to do/fix than just what's going on, on the pitch.

But yeh, would like to see Howe come in also.

I'm getting more sure by the hour that he will still be there come Saturday. Or at most the new manager will be in the stands and an interim in charge. I think it will still be Carrick though. The applauding from the fans at the end of last game will have made them feel they have more time before the crowd turns against Carrick.

What we should be doing is poaching the best minds from Brighton and Brentford and making the best of that. We as a club are still living in the dark ages.

I wouldn't trust us to do that. We seem incapable of identifying the talent behind success at other clubs and poaching it to actually put in place at our own. You can get the best people but if you put them in the wrong role you are wasting their talent.

I don't know whether Ashworth would have us doing better right now as DoF but we hired him, paid a lot of money on both ends of hiring/firing him and then didn't actually let him do his job.
