Carrick Out?

He's there to take training as normal this morning. Insanity.

Whitwell saying Nagelsmann is unlikely and there are suspicions the delays are for financial reasons because of the cost of sacking Carrick and replacing him.

You know, I actually do think they're annoyed they've got to pay £3m (down from 6) for Howe. Pathetic really.

I'm getting more sure by the hour that he will still be there come Saturday. Or at most the new manager will be in the stands and an interim in charge. I think it will still be Carrick though. The applauding from the fans at the end of last game will have made them feel they have more time before the crowd turns against Carrick.
I'm sort of intrigued to see if it could be any worse at the weekend with him still in place?
I think the fact it's an away game helps the board delay any decision. There is less expectation of a win, there is less pressure on the players and only the loyal travelling fans who tend to be more patient. It would be interesting to see how Carrick set them up - would he go ultra defensive and hope for a counter or would he play Chelsea on their merits and go toe to toe. Does Fernandes get back in despite no apology? Is Mainoo fit and does he make a big difference - we've certainly played worse without him. Chelsea re 5th with 13 points, have conceded 15 goals (more than United) and managed to lose at home to Spurs. It should be an even contest! Three points and we are only a win behind them....lol

The players have really given up on him too, so it just delays the inevitable and puts Carrick through the wringer some more.

I think for some odd reason they want him to take training today, but I still expect him to be dismissed any time now. Albeit it does look a bit less likely than yesterday morning...

It is depressing to think where we would be by now if the glazers hadn't been able to do what they did.

Imagine a well run club with Uniteds resources over the past 20 years. We genuinely would have just been a turbo charged version of City. I reckon we would be about £2-3bn or so better off based on wasted transfers, missed prize money, sponsorship and interest servicing the debt. Its crazy to think.

Whatever happens we need to start getting things right, it certainly a lot of pressure on the next decision.

I'm hoping for a goodbye training session but I feel at this point we are going to see another game under Carrick :(

What I think (read: hope) is probably happening:

He takes this final training session, as a sort of goodbye to the players and staff.

In the background they're scrambling to get the Howe deal sorted so he can take over immediately.

Honestly, it seems like only Howe is in the frame, considering it'll be Wilcox deciding. I think we can forget anyone else.

If he was going to be in charge for Chelsea, I think they'd have at least briefed it to the press by now. Whitwell himself is saying there must be some clarity either way, and fast.

Surprised he's not walked, surely going today? People talk about him staying for the payout, I guess the opposite is also true, if he walks out he'll probably get fined/have to pay something?

Probably why managers don't just walk out

Managers almost never walk out for the reasons you say and whenever it gets so bad the manager needs to be sacked they will always be able to negotiate some sort of severance or way to part ways outside of a messy split.

I was just talking to a guy at work and he said that the Amazon documentary should be good. Made me wonder if that is making it hard to get a new manager in as well. Who would want to come into this mess and have Amazon looking over your shoulder.

I give up. Talk about backing the wrong horse. These guys are ******* clueless.

I suspect that complication might be causing issues elsewhere. Carrick will have signed some sort of consent for this but I imagine his agent is not too happy about his future job prospects if his client is portrayed in an unfavourable light. It's likely a real issue in in terms of agreeing any separation as the deal they have with Amazon will be an access all areas type insight.

Yeh it's true

Michael Carrick will remain in charge of Manchester United for their trip to Chelsea this weekend.

Sources have told BBC Sport that the 45-year-old will be given the opportunity to turn things around at Old Trafford following a dismal start to the campaign.

Yep.

They do understand that hes a ******* awful manager. That he wasn't actually performing well last season. That he is a manager that not a single team in the PL would take as their manager. That the players have given up on him.
Clearly they don’t. It’s beyond ridiculous. They clearly thought ‘Oh, but matchday fans were cheering him. He must be good and well, it wil save us a few quid!’

That’s us ****** until at least the international break.

Was thinking Howe might not want anything to do with the job

This makes me think more so

Unless contract "stuff" is taking a long time...

But I actually think what I thought originally about him not wanting the job (who could blame him) is probably true

Insane decision given he pretty much said goodbye after that game with his actions and body language.

That said, he clearly isn't the issue at the club and even if changed, it'll just be a new manager bounce until the same issues set in.
