Ceramic Coating - fiction or fact?

same, i've had mine done with gtechniq as well.

the detailers took my car for 3 days in total.
cost £350 for stage 1 paint correction and gtechniq ceramic coating

(shamelessly) stolen off their FB page.

after 8 months, the coating has held up well, despite going to use my local tesco polish carwashers lol...

but one thing to note, as previously mentioned...the ceramic coating is extremely hydrophobic.
the problem is when there's rain/gunk and isn't washed/wiped off, the residue from the rain/gunk will leave a mark and look very ugly until it's washed off properly...(not a problem though, if you wash/detail your car every weekend)

A lot of spray on sealants "claiming" they have ceramics in them really do usually in the form of SiO2.
They generally adhere to the paint better, last longer and are more resilient than traditional sealants and Waxs.

I know exactly what ceramic is. What I am saying is that it is a marketing buzz word these days used everywhere and often on products that are no different to your usual spray wax/sealant.
 
Shameless R8 porn incoming, but my car did look spectacular after the detailing and ceramic coating I had done. It was a 3 day process, not 4 day. I just checked the invoice which was £895.

It's worth it if done profesiinally but there are downsides,
The cost is high
If you ever need paint repair you are back to square 1.

Another option is to find someone in Poland, Bulgaria or Romania who will do it for a few hundred and have a nice holiday into the bargain.
 
I think I will offer a poor man's solution. I bought some 9H MR Fix for £6.99 from Amazon. I used compound and polish with a rotary, took around 5 hours to prep, wash/clay bar etc....

Now the reviews for this product are very hit and miss, but 6 months on from my application the ceramic is still on fact. I wash the car, don't need to polish and it beeds just like day one. It 100% works.

What does spending £600 achieve over a £6 bottle?
 
My M3 is ceramic coated but I’m very impressed with the spray on stuff which I used car plan no1 on my evoque which beaded for ages.

Used the autobrite sprints recently which is beading up really nicely.

I think the majority of the benefit of the ceramic coating is the prep work which really sorts the paint out. My car is white so you can’t really see any microscratches. Maybe the coating helps stop them too as it’s so hard ?
 
ive tried a whole ton of waxes since getting the porschce last year - without doubt the best product i've used is Gtechniq C2v3 spray on ceramic. Much more glossy, easier to apply, last longer, beads better. You can literally feel the panels are much more silky. I've pretty much relegated everything else to the bin. fantastic product and doesnt cost the earth.

I think that option is even worse, go in for ceramic coating come back with a car stripped of all parts :p

The ceramic coating of my car was the final few hours of day 3 as I recall. It involved some really small applicators and a quite prolonged application process. The other two and a bit days was for a proper detailing process which involved ramps, wheels off, steam machines, carpet cleaning, seat leather cleaning with stuff that made it look like factory new, not shinny taxi and lots of little brushes. Disc callipers, wheels arches underside. Carbon polishing. If I takes me 4 hours to do a proper wash, so 3 days is reasonable to me. Cars are a passion for some of us, we pay a premium to get other people to do stuff that often we could do ourselves, but not as well.

2p glasses on 2p eyes, etc etc etc
 
I’ve coated mine twice now. First detail took around 40 hours including the coating second time was 25 ish due to only a light polish done to remove the previous coat and then coat with gyeon synchro. Coat itself takes around 2 hour per coat of gyeon MOHs then wait 4hour and 2 hours to coat with gyeon skin. This was on my m135i

I’d say learn to do it your self if you have the garage for car as it needs to stay dry.
