Champions League 16th/17th *Spoilers*

There were several where the ball had gone and the challenge was 2 or 3 seconds late, granted, they mostly got the yellows. But there were plenty of them

Correct me if I'm wrong but a mistimed challenge isn't a cynical foul. And if they got yellow cards for them then what's the problem?

They're cynical when they're on the best player and there's 5 in a row. You didn't even watch the game, everyone who did says their treatment of Fab was poor. I can accept your arguments if you watched it but you didn't :s

I was reading the commentary and then watched the final third of the match when I remembered it was on TV, there were a few late challenges but nothing particularly bad, I've seen far worse from some of the teams in the Premiership. "Treatment of Fabregas"? He isn't some VIP, they're allowed to play however they want against him within the limitations of the rules. In fact he was the worse as he retaliated off the ball.

depends how badly mistimed surely?(-:

Well yes obviously, but even then cynical means you were trying to bring the player down, not the ball doesn't it? I saw one fairly late challenge on Fabregas in the bit I watched (I think it was Costa) and he was rightfully given a yellow card.

lol, you say Ronaldo was badly treated and I agree then when I say the same of Fabregas you have a go and say he's no VIP. This is fun, speaking with Man Utd fans never works

Even funnier is how you watched 30 minutes and are trying to speak with authority on the matter :(

Actually I don't think Ronaldo was that badly treated, sure he got fouled more than most but then comes with being the best player on the team. We always got the freekicks and that was fine by me.

Fair enough, my opinion is that it's not cool. If I wanted to watch that balls I'd watch rugby or something. Btw, Ronaldo's treatment was appaling at times, from other teams and refs, then again he was so fast and prone to play acting sometimes it is probably hard to call with him. Some games I'd be ashamed of our league when I saw the English bruisers 'getting into' Ronaldo, it's not football.

Of course it is football. It has always been that way. You have stoppers and you have attackers. Sometimes, in teams such as Bolton, you have stoppers all over the park that try to bully their opposition. Sometimes it works.

Not every team can play pretty football.

I take it you have not been an Arsenal fan for long then. It's not that long ago that they were the dirtiest team the Premier League has seen.

Yeah, it doesn't usually get to me but last night was particularly bad. How they kept doing Fabregas and then as soon as their shoulder got brushed they were down claiming fouls. Very annoying. Don't think Porto were stoppers, they tried to play an open game, the niggling and intentional fouls on Fabregas were the thing which irked me

You're from Stoke so I imagine you know all about that title!

We have a way to go to match up to the likes of Viera, Keown et all. Arsenals disciplinary record back then was in a class of its own and not been matched by any team since including Stoke.

I do love the misguided view that Vieira was a dirty player, he wasnt. He picked up a hell of a lot of cards, I agree, but what was his role? He was there infront of the back 4, protecting them, trying to win the ball. With his big long legs he thought he could get to anything, and sometimes he reached too far, and got himself booked, but he wasnt maliscous with it at all.

Vieira gave exactly what he got, he was dirty at times but 99% of the time he wanted to play. He was a CM who took no **** at the end of the day, something this current Arsenal team wouldn't mind ..

..still, theres no excuse for what he did in the stoke game

Of course theres no excuse for that he did the other night and if he gets a 3 match ban then so be it but calling him dirty?? lol...i guess we can say the exact same thing about Keane who played for Man Utd...one of the worst and dirtiest players ever to take the field imo but he got the job done which was winning the midfield and making sure his team had the ball and control of it.

Its one of the most glaring things ive seen about Arsenal in the past few seasons...we are just too soft, our players are too soft and get injured far too often...we dont have an enforcer ie Viera who wasnt scared to go in hard and win the ball.
