champions league draw

Fantastic draw for Arsenal tbh, its win win. Let's be honest, with the EPL as competitive as it is that should be primary focus, this way not only will you get to play and see the best team in the world in their prime, but no matter what the result (unless its 10-0), you don't loose face. Beaten by Barca, oh no, you must be rubbish... And if you do manage to beat them, well..!

Good enough draw for United I guess, but I can't believe no-one mentioned Bayern last year in the 'easy route to the final' debate earlier; the club themselves said they probably didn't deserve to be there.

Cue Spurs getting similar luck all the way through the tournament sans any sort of humility at the end.

Nah AC Milan arent as good as they used to be...i think Tottenham could beat them.
Yeah, I think AC slipped out of the 'elite' of Europe a while ago. No pushovers mind, but certainly that 'big test' still has to come for Spurs after finishing ahead of a crippled Inter Milan side.

Spurs will destroy AC with their pace as well. The smugness is going to be insufferable when they make it through. :/
You 'suffer' them now?

That and the fact that they were doing fine until they met Rafa. ;)
Fixed.

Liverpool sent themselves tumbling,
Fixed again.

AC are a team filled with technically good players, they play some really nice stuff, but any of the English teams would breeze past them as they can't handle the pace and power we have in midfield and attack. They will probably score if Pato is fit and Ibra fancies it, but they won't be good enough to win.

Nice edit, but wrong on Vermaelen, I mean he might be back but so far its only "not before January" not a "he might be back in January"

I know you're a better manager than Wenger, but he probably knows more about the Arsenal squad than you do.

Wenger said:
Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie are getting better and better. Also Thomas Vermaelen could be back in January we think.

Obviously he could be lying about Vermaelen just like when he said he'll be out for a week or two about 4 months ago, but you can only work with what we're told, and Wenger said January.

Judging the tie between Arsenal and Barcelona by looking at the match the latter had with Madrid is a bit pointless to me. Arsenal play much better as a team than Madrid do and ultimately, aside from individual brilliance which Messi & co do possess, the main story from that match was teamwork wins over individuals.

I'd be surprised if Arsenal got battered again I must be honest. Not because Barcelona aren't as great, they're even better than last year for many people. But because you would assume that a lot of the Arsenal players will use the experience from last year to their advantage. Plus, all the pressure is on Barcelona. People, the majority of neutral viewers, will be tuning in to see Barcelona rack up a cricket score against Arsenal.

Somehow I think it will be a lot tighter. Could be wrong though, obviously. :D

As for the other ties:

Milan versus Spurs. Meh, I could see Spurs over-running them in all honesty. In fact, I'd stick out my neck and say, Spurs in my head are favourites to win that.

Copenhagen versus Chelsea. Chelsea win? By six?

Man Utd versus Marseille. Bit of an odd commodity with the French side. Seems like the prime suspect for an upset doesn't it? Hopefully not.

Interesting quotes from Wenger the other day

To Arsène Wenger, the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League is a fait accompli. The Arsenal manager struggled to suppress the conspiracy theorist in him when he suggested that speculation over what would happen in Nyon at 11am tomorrow was pointless. The reason? "I know who we will get," Wenger said. "At this level, you need connections." The Frenchman has seen it written. Arsenal will be paired with Barcelona.

I have no doubt it's fixed to maximise TV revenues and UEFA/FIFA obviously being about the money not the being fair, but it's unusual for such a prominant person to come out with it to the public and basically say it's all rubbish.

Is the draw not done on live television though? Would it not be rather blatant if someone looked like they were literally digging for a particular ball?!

Or all the balls in the bowl have the same name on them? I don't know, I'm sure it's easy enough to sort that bit out. Last year a few people posted the correct draw before it had happened too. It's not hard to believe when you take a second to look who's organising the whole thing

How on earth could you do that?

Considering how the process of picking the balls out works..

You suggesting the video feed isn't live or something? The people watching the draw aren't really there to witness the process?

I'm really struggling to grasp what you're suggesting. It sounds nuts.

I have my doubts tbh. Few seasons ago someone posted the quarter final lineup on some forum half an hour before the draw took place and bookies stopped taking bets.

I didn't watch it, I don't know how it went down.

Probably. *dons tin foil hat*

They're all in it. Does Wenger really give a rats arse about tomorrow and facing Shawcross? Does Pulis really care about Wenger's moaning? No, but do fans?

Mwahahahahaha

MWAHAHAAAHA yeah that was funnier in my head..

'All the pressure' has been on Barcelona the last half decade or more... I don't understand your point.

I don't mind getting Barca? Probably the best draw actually as it's a win/win, never going to win the competition so why not go out as early as possible and to the best team in the competition? Rather this than beat Shalke and lose to Chelsea in the next round or something equally tedious

I don't think we'll lose 6 - 0 and I hardly think a million or two will be the end of Arsenal, accumulating money is not a problem, spending it in the correct areas, maybe

Why wouldn't you want to face this Barca team? It's an absolute pleasure to see them in your stadium, vs your team, it's a fantastic tie and what European football is all about for me
