Didn't work like that.EUFA gave Liverpool a place, but said they would have to go through the whole of the qualifying process. It was just chance that we happened to draw TNS in the first round -who had offered to play a 'pre-qualification' knockout fixture with us for the right to use TNS' already earned entry slot
My mistake, I'm sure I read/heard that TNS offered their place somewhere though. Filthy lies whatever it was.

Here some interesting facts for you on Jose Mourinho and Frank Rijkaard as Managers.

Mourinho

Games: 97

Won: 70

Lost: 9

Drawn: 18

Frank Rijkaard

Games: 135

Won: 84

Lost: 24

Drawn 27

Have to say very impressive stats from both managers got great records. :)

it is a major travesty that such a poor team is European champions, it just goes to show literally anyone can win it given the right circumstances.
Very true.
Its amusing though, that although Liverpool won the CL, they were only 1point in the UEFA top teams thingy above 2nd place, which itself had 5 points between 2,3,4 & 5th.
So with the CL they were arguably the best, without, not even in the top20.

I dont like to make sweeping generalisations about specific groups, so if any 'pool fans feel that this is unjust, i apologise:

I know 4 Liverpool fans, and ever since May, any time you critisise anything about Liverpool, they allways respond with 'we won the CL' or 'were the best in Europe'. Which to me shows both great pride in the club, but also great ignorence.
Wether they want to admit it or not, they were lucky in most of their CL games last year. They were lucky against Juve (where DelPiero had a disallowd goal that should have stood), lucky againt Chelsea (where they got a goal awarded when it wasnt a goal), and were lucky against Milan (where, for objectified people, they played well for only 6mins, looking bad/ordinary for the rest of the match). They were lucky. But no Liverpool fan can accept that. They practically refuse to belive the final lasted more than that 6minutes, and any mention of the disaloud goal from Sheva, or any mention of how bad they were in the 1st half sees them returning to the tierd comment of 'we won the CL'.
Yes be happy about your win. Yes it was a good comeback. But they cannot continue to 'come back' from every critisism of their team thus far with the comments 'we won the CL'. Its pathetic.
I know just as many ManU fans, and none of them were that bad when they won. Although they should have been considering the year that they had.
Winning the CL is nothing if you dont finish in the top2 in your domestic league imo.

Again, i apologise if any Liverpool fans feel that the above is an unjust generalisation, its based upon my experiance with 'pool fans, rarther than a 'fully sweeping generalisation' :)

They offered it but the Welsh FA said if they didn't want their European position then they'd give it to someone else.

if the club still remained at all.
The chances of any PL club going out of business no matter how deep the financial mess are negligible, it just won't happen.

But you have bought other players like SWP who would be playing week in week out at any other club, just buying to stop other teams getting the same players.
Rubbish, he was bought because he is a fantastic player & a great prospect. No-one buys players just so another team can't have them.

Somebody mentioned skill and Chelsea in the same breath earlier, what a load of twoddle,
Joe Cole, Robben, Duff, Lampard, SWP... still twaddle?

We wouldn't of won the PL without the money RA has put in but just throwing money at a club does not guarantee success, how much have Newcastle spent in PL for instance?
Man.U, Arsenal & Liverpool have all spent millions getting where they are, they just didn't spend it as quick as we did.
Smells very green in here now that red isn't dominant.

to be fair

They were lucky. But no Liverpool fan can accept that
is a sweeping generalisation no matter how much you want to claim that it isn't.

I have always said that we were lucky, amazingly lucky to get through. I have found it incredibly disappointing to have to deal with the level of negativity that has come my way since the team I have supported since I was a tiny child has finally come together after the crapness of the 90's and won a major trophy. I don't walk around saying 'we're the best, deal with it' cos I know it's not true - so why tar everyone with the same brush? It's rather sad tbh.

Im not taring everyone with the same brush. Please read my posts properly.

If you want to get offended and say that it is a generalisation, then feel free to do so.
But i can asure you that its not. As it cant be. I dont know every 'pool fan do i? ;)
Its based upon my experiance with Liverpool fans.

Sorry but BoomAM is right. Some of the Liverpool contingent on this forum are the worst fans I've ever seen for boasting and slagging off every side that isn't Liverpool..

And the point I was answering had nothing to do with Liverpool, it was answering the claim that Man U fans didn't boasted or gloat when they won lots. Which they did. :)

I did read your post properly. I am not the one making sweeping generalisations and qualifying it by saying 'but i'm not making sweeping generalisations. That you just made. :)

And you might do..i'm sure there's a few less today than there were last night

Edit: that tarring with the same brush wasn't aimed at you btw, that was seperate from your comments.. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

it's got nothing to do with red not being the dominant colour, it's because Chelsea and their fans keep acting like they are Accrington Stanley who have won the premiership, when they wont admit that the enormous investment made in them is the DEFINING factor in their current success, and no matter how influential Maureen is, he wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the cash!

I think its pretty strong to say we won the Champions League entirely due to luck and smacks of jealously or just bitterness, its not like we got easy draws all the way through (Juventus, Chelsea, AC Milan anyone?) and im sure there was no more lucky involved than any other team that wins it.

As for the Liverpool fans you mention, well they're idiots. Fortunately no Liverpool fans i know are like that. Not like the liverpool fans on this forum are sat here replying with "But we won the CL". We are not the best in Europe, however, we are Europe Champions.

To say "winning the champions league is nothing if you dont finish in the top 2 in your domestic league" is a bit pathetic in my opinion, its an achievement regardless of however you perform elsewhere, maybe even better if you werent playing well enough to finish higher in your league.

There was a few follow up programs on both Sky and ITV/2 i believe, that looked back over the "magic" or something of the CL and they did an in depth analysis of it. I believe a few newspapers covered this too.

This is the point Chelsea fans seem to stumble over, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool EARNED their millions, Chelsea just got it handed on a plate.

Yes, i still stand by my point, you may have some fantastic players in your side, and yes im envious, but as of yet chelsea have not played scintillating football which makes you sit up and say OMFG, you play effective, solid, efficient football.I would go as far to say chelsea actually played better football when the likes of Zola were there (well duh!)

But if liverpool would play like that and win the EPL i would be happy as larry.

You were saying they had no skill though, which is blatant crap :)
