Changes coming to Amazon Prime

I streamed an episode of Vikings earlier and the quality was excellent. I can actually see me using it quite a bit if they have good stuff to watch. I travel for business quite a bit and was already a Prime user.

Amazon has failed to deliver my order yet again. Apparently they've made two attempts, but no one has answered? That's nonsense, since my partner and I have been home in both instances. I even specified that the order should be left with the neighbour in the unlikely event that we're out for the duration.

Predictably, Amazon's support representatives have offered no rational explanation. (They've confirmed the address more than once.)
If they said the courier had simply called it a night, I might be more inclined to believe them.
Amazon Prime leaves much to be desired. We won't be subscribing in future, especially in light of the recent price changes.

I bought Prime just before this was announced so I got it for free without even knowing it was coming. But I just took a look and the list of available films is really poor.

Has it always been the case that you need to spend over £10 to get 'free' delivery with Amazon? I just noticed that this was the case today, and I wondered if they were trying to push people to prime.

No, they changed it a while back.
You can see where they were coming from though, I imagine for their lower value items they were paying more for the postage than they were making for the item.

How did you get it for £40?

And what savings? The savings compared to if you had ordered everything next day outside of Prime? If so, they're not savings really, because you wouldn't have ordered everything next day if you'd had to pay £8 per item.

So in fact Prime has probably cost you £49, not saved you £x.

I think it cost me £40 :p, £50 is not a bad price either. I would have happily paid it again.

I do pay for next day delivery and especially with a pre order, so that way it has saved me money, instead of paying £5 per item to get it delivered. I order quite a lot from Amazon as they're usually the best option online.

Another benefit is that I can add family members to it as long as parcels are being posted to the same address :).

I like to think that in the run up to Christmas it pays for itself.

Just started a free trial. I probably won't bother with it. I was disappointed with some of the TV shows especially. South Park for example, you have to pay for each season/episode...some of the episodes are 15 years old!

I already have netflix, so will end up keeping that I imagine, and I am looking on to NowTV which a mate keeps telling me about.

PS. Also, I am not really bothered about the free delivery tbh. Every pre-order I have made from Amazon has turned up on release day anyway.

Very disappointed to find that Amazon Instant only plays over wifi. I travel a great deal for business and was really hoping to be able to access if over 3/4G. Miffed...

Have they used whatever platform they use to stream then?

I used 3G/HSDPA for over 2 years with Lovefilm without any problems.

Not sure to be honest. Went to try it this evening as am away on business and got the message 'wi-fi only'. Googled it and seems to be the case. Sucks big time and I can't see me continuing sub without 3/4G.

One of the reasons for increasing the price in America was an increase in shipping costs in general, I'd imagine it's both that and the streaming which has resulted in the increase. So you wouldn't necessarily have the delivery only option being £49 like it used to be.

I have watched lots of stuff so far. I do all my pet food and cat litter shopping on Amazon prime so I do use the delivery service as well. One thing was a day late, so I rang up and they gave me an extra month.
