Changes coming to Amazon Prime

Half the movies seem to be the ones you see in the bargain bins that no one wants to buy because they're gash

I've paid my regular amount for this year but will not be paying £80 fees next year

I won't be renewing my Prime membership, I have Lovefilm and rarely use the streaming facility.
This is good for me as this gives me a reduction in my Lovefilm subscription cost

Have you only just signed up for the trial or has it auto billed you at the end of your trial?
Or did you just blindly click through after clicking on the try amazon prime button as you're not always eligible even though the first button mentions a free trial.
Either way just go into your account and cancel it as you've not used it you'll be refunded the full amount.

:o I clicked the free trial and clicked on through. Went on webchat and the girl explained that as I'd had a free trial last September I wasn't eligible. However she offered Prime at £49 instead. Result! :D

I like it because:-

1 - it can deliver not only to billing address, i can get it sent to work.
2 - I can time it to delivery on Saturday (big plus)
3 - 99% of the time i gets here next day, if not I get another month free.
4 - Real time stock levels
5 - It has almost everything I want, with the same level of customer service, from green tea to £2k camera

£79 is now a bit expensive and don't really want the streaming service but over the year I would think the saturday delivery alone would cost more than £100.

I do wish they offer the streaming service as an upgrade price with discount if you are a Prime member, as opposed to mandatory.

1. You don't need prime for that
2. If i get sent to work then no need for that either
3. I don't need that fast, 2-3 days in the norm, next day is nice but not vital
4. You don't need prime for that
5. You don't need prime for that

But none of that is guaranteed.

Order something cheap, it is not guaranteed to be there next day. Granted, a lot of the times I wait until Friday to order so I get it Saturday. Ordering something on Friday is not guarantee saturday delivery without Prime.

1 - You are not guaranteed it'll be sent out on Friday
2 - It can go normal post, actually if it goes normal post you are likely to get it Saturday
3 - if it goes courier then it's likely not saturday delivery.

Prime pretty much guarantee saturday delivery.

You also said you only use Amazon when its the cheapest. I use Amazon 99% of the time, sometimes its not the cheapest, because of the CS. Stuff like sending things to my work address instead of billing is a reason for me to use Amazon. Those has nothing to do with being a Prime member as you original post was referring to using Amazon almost as a last resort.

I was referring to his second sentence.

He only choose Amazon, not "only Choose to use Prime".

Not every retailer allows you to send to other addresses, especially for expensive items.

So my reply was both on Amazon and Amazon Prime.

It is a premium price for a premium service. Those that don't mind paying for preferential treatment were happy paying £49 for that service. It is the same process as slipping the barmen a £50 tip for serving you first at the bar but with Amazon you get that year round instead of just one night.

The real question is, are the changes worth the increase in price. Not 'is the service pointless?'.

When it comes to Blu-ray or books for example it'll probably work out cheaper to go to a shop in the long run.

Not really. People who are happy to pay for prime are likely on some decent wages - so if the opportunity cost for you is say £40 an hour, you don't have to spend that much time walking around to shops and queing in front of the tills before Prime becomes a cheaper alternative.

Signed up for the Prime trial in early January as i had to build a pc for the sister in law and Amazons prices were miles cheaper than anywhere else. Out of 7 orders only 2 got here the next day even though everything was in stock and showing that Prime was available. One order took 2 days, 2 took 3-4 days and the last took over a week. Standard free delivery would have done just as well. Needless to say i cancelled Prime before the trial ran out. I had a 2 month trial of Lovefilm last year and found that lacking as well. I don't see £79 being very good value for money.

Having looked at what is available on the streaming service, I have cancelled the auto renewal. I still have until the end of October remaining so I will see after that if I miss it. The main time I really see the benefit is around Christmas when I order stuff knowing i'll get it in time for Christmas. The rest of the time its not so important so it might just be cheaper to pay extra for the individual deliveries around Christmas.

Will still pay for it. The amount of traffic my family and I put through Amazon for a year, it easily pays for itself. Not really fussed about the extra services, but for the extra price I'm certain I'll still be quids in.

e: service is also excellent. The one time they failed to deliver on the specified date (which was the courier's screw up, not Amazon's) they extended my subscription for an extra 3 months as a show of good faith. Can't whack that, really.

I've been mulling over getting prime for ages and ironically this price increase could be the thing that swings me towards getting it, the streaming sounds good it was the kindle library thing that almost got me as my dad loves the kindle I got him, it was just the being tied in and the prospect of not buying enough that put me off but as I said that thar streamin could be the clincher.

Lovefilm app on Xbox which now is called also called amazon now. Inside looks like amazon instant and nothing like lovefilm and on sign in page it says if you have a lovefilm login, to convert it to amazon instant by clicking here.

So yes looks like they are merging.

Got the email yesterday, at first I was rather annoyed at them hiking the price up however as it won't be charged till next year not overly worried. It just means I'll cancel my lovefilm subscription and stick with prime (if the quality and choice is good).

As I've shared my prime account with all my family members it easily pays for it's self, not to mention amazon numerous times extending it when packages don't arrive next day. So movie/tv streaming is a bonus.
