Changes coming to Amazon Prime

Do you still have to sign for all packages with prime? I'd be tempted to sign up for this, but I'm rarely at home so it'd bug me if I had to go to the post office to pick stuff up that would've fitted through my postbox.

No, they've posted plenty of stuff through my letterbox or left it in my porch.

I really enjoy having Prime as it makes the majority of what I order arrive the next day and at £40 a year, it pays for itself in savings.

The increase to £80 is putting me off and coupled with a streaming service that I'm not sure I'd use. I hope they add an option for Prime for £40 like they do now.

Only time that I use Prime is when they offer a free month once a year. Other than that, there's no chance I'd pay as I don't use it enough to justify the sub. More so now.

I had a DVD boxed set on my CamelCamelCamel list for months.

Today it hits my target price but I check the streaming service, and I now find I can stream it for free. Thanks Amazon!

No extra costs this year.

I'm quite pleased with how Amazon have handled this. My prime membership is due for renewal next month. I pay £49 for a year and get streaming free for a year.

This gives me a year to decide if the streaming service is worth the extra cost. If it is not I have a year to wean myself off Amazon or try and convince them to create a a package at a price I would be willing to pay.

I think more companies should be encouraged to follow this model.

:( it hasn't got HitRecord on TV, I need to get my hands on episode 4. It is on the American version, is there anyway to get my hands on it.

How did you get it for £40?

And what savings? The savings compared to if you had ordered everything next day outside of Prime? If so, they're not savings really, because you wouldn't have ordered everything next day if you'd had to pay £8 per item.

So in fact Prime has probably cost you £49, not saved you £x.

Can anyone advise what the current prices are for lovefilm. I'm with them but can't find any pricing for membership or what the different plans offer

I was pretty lucky with the timing of my subscription. I paid my renewal on 24/02, so I got it for £49. So at least I still have the next year for the regular price, and I can give the streaming stuff a try if I want to.

Do I understand it right? I can watch any of the movies or tv shows they have for free as part of my Amazon Prime, even if I dont already own it? Seems like a sweet deal if you like streaming stuff.

I do buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. Like a ton. And my parents order from my account as well to save on postage. So even at this new price I'll probably keep it. But I would have preferred a basic Prime package and an upgraded £79 one. Feels unfair we have no choice to take an extra service we might not even want.

For me personally its a winner as we do use Love film instant (girlfriend loves it) and Prime delivery (next day is so vital for me that its a deal breaker at any other website that doesn't offer it!).

Loaning books looks good too.

interesting discussion but I want to ask how many of you look around before buying.

I find in the last 12 months that amazon is suddenly not the cheapest and that I can save substantial amounts by looking around especially on electrics. Just bought some stuff from my local belgian site which was substantially cheaper than amazon fr de and uk even with the 5€ delivery charge.
They were headphones which were 49 on belgian site and 69 on amazon

I'm sure the UK has even more offers

Always shop around, but by the time you buy several items from several different stores and each have separate postage charges, amazon is still usually cheaper.

I generally buy everything for the month on payday, so buying multiple items from same place really does save a fair amount on postage costs.

I normally compare prices with eBay and Screwfix, or a couple of PC hardware places I use, then buy the cheapest.

Only people like Raymond Lin, who have a boner for the service cost be damned, fail to shop around. Though that said, Amazon are almost invariably the best option.

I'd agree with this. I'd shop around, but unless there's a really substantial price difference (which isn't often), it usually ends up working out breaking about even just by sticking with Amazon

Just checked and I will be getting the next year for £49 - my free trial ends the 28th Feb so I think I'll stick with it - just noticed it's got all of The Shield - I've been wanting to watch that so win win there already :D

My existing Prime runs until the beginning of December. So I've got until then to decide whether I want to continue at the new price ... at the moment, probably not. I doubt that I'm going to get around to streaming much if anything so it would be difficult to justify just having the same delivery options for so much more cost ...

High usage lovefilm subber here for the last two years...

turned ps3 on..
was asked to migrate account
migrated account online for streaming and kept lovefilm for delivery

spent 10 mins on the new updated Amazon Prine streaming cancelled my subscription after two years of lovefilm streaming.

I hate what they have done. I know it maybe the future but it feels like a lower quality more expensive one with more DRM and less flexiblity

now only going to use Lovefilm for bluerays to the door for now.

Terrible.

Firstly .. everything now seems to cost money to rent? those that were previously part of the subscription are still rent free but now even though there is a HD logo on the title .. you dont get the HD from the same thing you did 1 week ago .. this is not something most people will have noticed yet !

it would seem we are in a migratory phase to pay for HD rental or pay for SD rental .. but hang on, i was getting HD for free (subscription only) previously?

but now i can 'buy' a movie. How is it buying? so i trawl amazons website for info and nothing, nada. There is prime on amazon and prime streaming which is a minor but odd confusion.

Still nothing, so i am left to assume i can only download a Movie via the app on full purchase of a title to specific devices but then i start to clock on..we now have a movie basket and this would be a way to watched your 'owned' movies .. there is no way that a normal person will download 100GB of movies per device locally .. again no information here.

which leads me to one conclusion. I am buying a title to stream from a cloud.. so iam paying for a cloud service. But its not a cloud drive as the title is multicast across a few servers.. so iam paying for amazons licencing costs, this is a gloryfied google music but worse

Further more i used to be able to wait for Lovefilm streaming to have a movie online so i would get the BD disc sent instead to be delivered for newer titles.

So how can i 'buy' (read stream from a multicast server my movie list that i will never physcially own in lower quality and stereo sound) a newer title on amazon prime in HD and not in 6months just stream it for free .. am i paying £20 for early access for 3 - 6 months and then for eternity the stock rental is free because it becomes part of the streaming service ?? the ps3 app doesnt indicate it to be a real purchase of a physical item.. only a collection of bought items to stream .. but i was doing this before for just the cost of subscription :/

so many questions, none answered on Amazon, not much chance to discuss anything.

Terrible. You never own a copy, you dont rent the cloud space, your existing catalogue of HD streams are suspiciously now SD and the latest titles cost money for HD and if you buy then at some point it may or may not ever be free for everyone else who just waits a bit for the title to come out?

i just dont get the appeal at all of this, i would be suprised if people dont cotton on to this and drop the service. i might of got confused but it is confusing, no FAQ, two types of prime, lovefilm still there, business model changed. App has confusing elements also.

its a total cluster fluck
