Changes coming to Amazon Prime

I just did my Christmas shopping this afternoon... most of the items due to be delivered by tomorrow... will wait and see. Have bought multiple small gifts for people so if some don't arrive in time then not all is lost... + there is always the 24th too...

Had my first ever missing delivery from Amazon during my free months Prime membership having chosen no rush delivery. Contacted them Saturday morning and received replacement order on Sunday afternoon. They also extended my free trial for an extra month, now that's what I call customer service.

I'm on about my 5th Amazon Prime trial as of today, which has come in useful given the last minute shopping.

Why do they call it a trial if they just keep giving them out? This is with the same account

Might be worth it to anyone who wants to keep Prime but doesn't want the price hike - but I emailed them last month to whinge at the fact I didn't want the streaming video service (which I don't) - the just debited £30 in my bank account!

I'll be renewing when it's up at the end of the month.

I used the chat system and all I could get was 3 months extra :(

Well will be chatting to them again in another 3 months :D

We order 1-2 items a week, far more at christmas, well over 100 items ordr laste year.

Plus we find Amazon Prime streaming better than netflix so have stopped the netflix renewal.

Accidently signed up to the trial membership a few weeks ago. There wasn't much I wanted to watch, but what I did see was in HD and streamed flawlessly, so I'll give them that. I even got most of my Xmas shopping delivered on that trial as well.

Not sure I'd pay though, especially as they tend to deliver stuff by their own courier. It just isn't convenient for me, which is a shame.

Signed up for the free trial for the 3rd time and forgot to cancel bit of a surprise when the £79 bill showed up on bank statement but it has more than paid for itself, Bit disappointed with the instant video selection tho, still have Netflix for what ever amazon does not have.

I managed to get my Prime literally days before they upped it to £79, so I feel I've had my money's (monies?) worth this year. They've messed up a few orders (minor) and after a polite email they've given me a couple of extra months free. I'm hoping they'll mess up a little more so I can get a few more free months. ;)

I don't use their streaming service any where near as much as Netflix, so have kept the latter running, but now that they've got Amazon Photo I think I may let my Prime renew (I was going to let it lapse).

I like next day deliverys, but one does get spoilt so going back to 'normal' deliveries would be annoying. One advantage is I can order stuff knowing I will be home the next day to receive it; using non-Prime would be hit & miss.

I've also used their 'get £1 if you aren't bothered about next-day delivery' option for a few non-urgent items and also used the money to buy a couple of e-books for my kids. Which is nice.

A warning to anyone who has cancelled their amazon prime, you need to read this...

Last year (as detailed earlier in this thread) I cancelled my prime membership because the £79 is a joke (for me and my usage). I continued to use Amazon for bits and bobs as I had a year of membership to make use of.

Earlier this month, my membership came to an end. A nice surprise...

... well, if you call seeing a £79 amazon prime charge on your bank statement a surprise!! I have managed to get a refund but only through very good timing. I am literally disgusted by their tactics.

I got straight on to their online chat service and asked them to look in to it. While they were doing so, I looked for any orders around the date of renewal to check I hadn't been tricked in to selecting a prime delivery option and signing up to another 12 months service, I hadn't.

They agreed to refund £30 until I pointed out that I hadn't actually asked for or ordered prime, in fact I cancelled it 12 months ago. Eventually they agreed to refund the £79.

Then I go an email....

Since you didn’t cancel your membership before the free trial ended 30 days later, you were charged the £79.00 annual membership fee. You were charged automatically so that you didn’t experience any lapse in benefits.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't feel Amazon Prime is something you'd benefit from at this time.

As our records indicate that you haven't used your Amazon Prime membership since your free trial ended, I’ve cancelled your membership for you and requested a refund of £79.00.

Is this even legal? I suspect not.

TL-DR

I cancelled amazon prime 12 months ago with 12 months of membership paid in advance. At the end of the 12 months, amazon gave me 30 free days of prime membership and because I didn't cancel this 30 day free trial I knew nothing about, they signed me up to another 12 months of prime at £79

Be warned!

You agree to it in the T&Cs when you take the 30 day trial so yes totally legal.

The fact you cancelled in the past has nothing to do with this they are 2 totally separate things.

You can get Amazon Music ad-free now with Prime. Unfortunately I bought our Prime membership on my wife's account since I knew I could just share it with my account, but this means only she can get Amazon Music since she is the primary Prime member. :( She won't use it so it's a bit of a waste but oh well.

I had to contact them yesterday after an item I ordered Saturday "guaranteed for Monday" failed to arrive.

The person on the chat could barely type a comprehensible reply, and seemed to ignore my concerns when I stated that Royal Mail would now card my door as I wouldn't be home Tuesday.

"No need, van deliver to you home".

Riiiiiiiight

Awesome service, on the very rare occasion (twice for me) they fail to make a delivery just call them up and explain your frustration each time I've been refunded my monthly charge.

I'm a huge fan

same here - £79 a year, next day delivery (30 from 30 so far since I started prime including Sunday deliveries), TV/Movies, now including Music unlimited streaming. What's not to like!

Just had an email introducing Prime Music and saying that we over a million free songs for members.

Sent back a duff item a few days ago and already had a refund. The service continues to be very good.

Can you not just sign in with the same account?
