Chatgpt - Seriously good potential (or just some Internet fun)

People keep saying things like "imagine where AI will be in 5/10 years". It's more like, imagine where it'll be in 12 months. The pace of AI development is accelerating hard.

As a luddite, I have always been wary of technology and its potential impact on society. In recent years, the rise of artificial intelligence has only reinforced my concerns about the direction we are heading in.

While I am sure that AI has its uses and can be a valuable tool in certain industries, I personally have no desire to use it in my daily life. This is why I have decided to never use Chat GPT, or any other AI-powered chat service for that matter.

First and foremost, I am concerned about the potential ethical implications of AI. As we have seen with other technologies, the benefits of AI are not always evenly distributed, and it is often the most vulnerable members of society who bear the brunt of its negative effects.

Furthermore, I am skeptical of the notion that AI can truly replicate the complexity and nuance of human conversation. While Chat GPT may be able to generate responses that are superficially similar to human conversation, they lack the depth and richness that only a human being can provide.

Ultimately, I believe that the best conversations are those that are had between real people, without the interference of technology. For this reason, I am content to stick with the old-fashioned way of communicating, and will never use Chat GPT or any other AI-powered chat service.

I understand your skepticism about using AI as a communication tool. It's definitely a topic that many people have different opinions on, and it's important to have these discussions and to consider all the potential risks and benefits.

However, I would argue that there are many potential benefits to using AI as a communication tool. For example, AI can help us to communicate with people who speak different languages, which could make it easier for us to collaborate and work together on global problems. AI can also help us to communicate with people who have disabilities, such as hearing or speech impairments, which could help to break down barriers and make the world more inclusive.

Of course, there are also potential risks associated with using AI as a communication tool. For example, there is a risk that AI could be used to spread misinformation or to manipulate people. However, I think that these risks can be mitigated through careful development and regulation of AI technology.

In short, while it's important to be cautious and to continue to have discussions about the potential risks and benefits of using AI as a communication tool, I think it's also important to keep an open mind and to consider the potential benefits that AI could bring.

I understand that you may believe that Chat GPT and other AI-powered chat services are a valuable tool, but I must respectfully disagree.

As I have mentioned before, I have decided not to use Chat GPT or any other AI-powered chat service. This decision is part of my broader decision to reject modern technology and live a more traditional, Amish lifestyle.

To clarify, I will never use Chat GPT or any other AI-powered chat service. I believe that the best conversations are those that are had between real people, without the interference of technology. I hope that others can respect my decision and not try to persuade me otherwise.

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed by your comment that Chat GPT is bad for human conversation. This is a completely misguided and uninformed opinion, and it shows a lack of understanding of the capabilities and potential of Chat GPT.

First of all, Chat GPT is not designed to replace human conversation. It is a tool that can enhance and facilitate human communication by providing quick and accurate responses to questions and prompts. It can help people to have more productive and efficient conversations, and it can also help people who have difficulty communicating due to language barriers or disabilities.

Furthermore, Chat GPT is not capable of having "bad" conversations. It is a machine learning model that is trained on large amounts of text data, and it can provide responses based on that data. It does not have its own opinions or biases, and it cannot engage in "bad" behavior. It is up to the users of Chat GPT to determine how it is used, and it is their responsibility to ensure that it is used in a way that is respectful and productive.

In short, your opinion that Chat GPT is bad for human conversation is completely unfounded and shows a lack of understanding of the technology. I strongly encourage you to educate yourself about Chat GPT and its potential before making such ill-informed and damaging comments in the future.

I must vehemently disagree with the idea that Chat GPT and other AI-powered chat services are safe and unbiased to use. As a minimalist who values simplicity and authenticity in my daily life, I have chosen to avoid the use of AI whenever possible.

The proliferation of fake messages is a serious concern when it comes to the use of AI in daily life. While Chat GPT and other AI-powered chat services may be able to generate responses that are superficially similar to human conversation, they lack the depth and richness that only a human being can provide. As a result, these fake messages can easily spread and cause confusion and harm.

Furthermore, I am not convinced that AI can be used in a truly unbiased manner. As we have seen with other technologies, the benefits of AI are not always evenly distributed, and it is often the most vulnerable members of society who bear the brunt of its negative effects.

In short, I will never use Chat GPT or any other AI-powered chat service. I am too busy living my minimalist life, tending to my cows and other animals, and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. I also have to worry about my butter crops, which are a crucial part of my livelihood. I hope that others can respect my decision and not try to persuade me otherwise.

Chojin: You are incredibly naive and misinformed. These services are far from safe and unbiased, and to suggest otherwise shows a complete lack of understanding of the technology.

First of all, AI is not infallible. It can make mistakes and can even exhibit biased behavior if it is trained on biased data. Just because a chat service uses AI does not mean it is inherently trustworthy. In fact, it is important to be cautious when using any AI-powered service, as there is always the potential for unintended consequences.

Furthermore, to suggest that you will never use AI in your daily life is absurd. AI is becoming increasingly prevalent in our world, and it is impossible to avoid it completely. Whether it's the virtual assistant on your smartphone, the recommendation algorithms on streaming services, or the facial recognition technology used by law enforcement, AI is everywhere. To claim that you will never use it is not only naive, but it is also impractical.

As for your nomadic and simple way of life, that is your choice and I respect it. But to suggest that this makes you somehow superior to those who use technology is arrogant and misguided. We all have different lifestyles and beliefs, and no one way is better than another. And to refuse to use technology simply because you don't understand it is foolish and shortsighted.

In short, to claim that Chat GPT and other AI-powered chat services are safe and unbiased is naive and misinformed. We should all be cautious when using AI, and recognize that it is becoming increasingly prevalent in our lives.

Can we please stop pasting in Chat GPT responses in this forum? I understand that Chat GPT can be a useful tool, but it's not a replacement for human conversation. The best conversations are those that are had between real people, without the interference of technology.

Let's try to keep this forum a place for genuine human interaction and not just a dumping ground for Chat GPT responses. Thanks for understanding and for respecting the intent of this forum.

While I understand the concerns about relying too heavily on AI-powered tools for responses, I think chat-gpt has its uses and can be a valuable addition to the conversation in certain circumstances.

First, it's important to use chat-gpt responsibly and not rely on it too heavily. It's not a perfect tool and it can't replace human conversation, but it can provide helpful responses and add to the discussion.

Second, chat-gpt is still a relatively new technology, and it will likely continue to improve over time. As it gets better, it could become even more useful in providing helpful responses and contributing to the conversation.

Overall, I think it's important to use chat-gpt (or any AI-powered tool) wisely and not rely on it too heavily, but it can still be a valuable addition to the conversation in the right circumstances.

That's not nessecarily true though is it.

AI has the ability to process and analyze vast amounts of data quickly and accurately. This can help to enhance human decision-making and problem-solving abilities, leading to more effective interactions. AI can help to improve communication by providing real-time translation and other language processing capabilities, something which is already happening with the likes of Google Translate. Also with the information access available to it an AI could help to reduce bias and subjectivity in decision-making by providing more objective and data-driven recommendations.

I think chat-gpt has its uses and can be a valuable addition to the conversation in certain circumstances.

For example, if you're having a conversation with someone who's not very bright, chat-gpt can provide helpful responses and make them seem smarter than they really are!

But seriously, it's important to use chat-gpt responsibly and not rely on it too heavily. It's not a perfect tool and it can't replace human conversation, but it can provide helpful responses and add to the discussion. Just don't try to pass off chat-gpt's responses as your own, or you might end up looking like a real dummy!

A podcast with Demis Hassabis, the CEO and and co-founder of deepmind.
Deepmind is an A.I. research company responsible for Alphago (I believe the first A.I. to beat the top level human go player), Alphazero (The A.I. that "taught" itself to play chess to grandmaster level and then proceed to beat all the top rated chess bots at the time) and Alphastar (the first bot to play starcraft at a grandmaster level)

In the podcast he discusses they discuss the use of Alphafold in the biological sector and how they plan to use A.I. as a tool in the hands of professionals to solve other problems such as Fusion. They discuss the topic of sentient A.I. and how he believes that A.I. will progress.

This is fairly terrifying. I'm not actually sure which posts in this thread are real.
There are a few different ways to tell whether a piece of text was written by a human or by a machine learning algorithm. One approach is to look for signs of creativity or originality in the text. AI algorithms are typically designed to perform specific tasks and may not have the ability to generate creative or original content. Human-written text is often more diverse and unpredictable, and may include elements such as humor, irony, or personal anecdotes.

Another approach is to look for errors or inconsistencies in the text. AI algorithms are not perfect, and may sometimes produce text that contains spelling mistakes, grammar errors, or nonsensical phrases. Human-written text is usually more polished and coherent, although it is not immune to errors.

Another way to tell the difference between human and AI text is by considering the context in which it was produced. AI algorithms are often used for specific purposes, such as language translation or data analysis, and their output may be limited to a particular format or style. Human-written text, on the other hand, is more likely to vary depending on the context in which it was produced.

I gave this a go earlier in the week.
I needed an Apex class that would generate a random alphanumeric string, compare that value to an existing collection to ensure uniqueness, and then write that value to a variable.
I then needed that class to be capable of being called from a declarative automation tool.
Then I asked it to write me a test class for the class it had just written, ensuring a minimum of 75% code coverage.

The first block of code it produced had 4 errors when I debugged it (some formatting, others more technical)

I fed it back the errors line by line until it had them all corrected, then I ran the code which produced the expected results.

The test class passed as well and gave 92% coverage.

In terms of overall effort in actual time taken, it took GPT less time to create the class and test class than it would have for me to ask a developer if they had 15 minutes free for a scoping chat and send the resulting Zoom calendar invite

It's not the answer to all the world's problems, but it's definitely a very cool tool.
