Chatgpt - Seriously good potential (or just some Internet fun)

I found the part where it could write functional code to be particularly impressive. I saw an artist create a 3D scene after using midjourney to create the concept.

Will A.I. take our Jerbs? Maybe, but in the mean time I can see us using it to improve our efficiency as a "work" partner.

Yep. You'll train your replacement and be happy about it :D

People keep saying things like "imagine where AI will be in 5/10 years". It's more like, imagine where it'll be in 12 months. The pace of AI development is accelerating hard.

When you have an AI engine that is good enough you turn it on itself, ie asking the AI how to improve the AI, doing this over and over, this is already being done with some AI tech.

So long as the AI can produce sensical forum posts, it will be doing better than about 80% of us.

The biggest issue with it currently seems to be that it doesn't know when its wrong or when it needs to put its hands up and say "I can't be sure". It just guesses and does a bloody good impression of being completely certain of its answer.

I just got it to write some terraform to apply branch protection to all repositories in a given organisation in GitHub. Nice.
It's really useful for generating boilerplate code. I've started integrating it into my workflow.

Code generations templates and stuff are a total ballache to setup and maintain. With ChatGPT you just write a sentence and spits out all the boilerplate you need.

It's not good at the architecture and optimisation side of things, but quite good at doing basic implementations that can then be tidied up by a competent programmer.

Humans usually aren't quite so good at it or your research leads to discussions from other people who know what they are doing. Certainly in programming you will find people offering poor answers and getting called out on it. Imagine just talking to one person and always trusting their answer. Thats ChatGPT.

There will 100% be a massive error from someone trusting its answers too much in the next few years.
