Check Your 4090's 12vhpwr Connectors To Make Sure They are in Pristine Condition

The lack of any comms from Nvidia is looking pretty bad at this point...
apparently 0 fe cards melted and they are probably the most sold card.

people should learn to plug them in, still makes me laugh that the ones the most vocal about it are also the ones so anti NV on the forums anyway..

Yes, me the one who never stops complaining about AMD drivers.

More like I just call it out there and then.

A spade is a spade, why bother with pretending?

And who would be the anti nv people exactly? If this was an amd issue people would also be calling it out, and I would be willing to bet amd would have issued a statement about this issue by now.

What could have been. I do wonder if putting the gen5 connector on the back would have made any difference from EVGA?
I disagree. Putting the connector there on the 4090 would have been a disaster with case compatibility. The 4090 I have is so long it's just stops short of touching the front fans in my Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh which isn't a small case. You would not be able to connect it without severe bending except in the largest cases.

Putting the connector on the actual backplate area of the pcb probably would have solved a lot of these issues, more room for the cables to go upwards rather than bending towards a case panel\window or towards the front of the case as in the case of the evga card.

It's never going to stop and there is a pattern to many of the ones melting look at the outside pins always destroyed.

I thought it wasn't added to the megathread but it is and didn't spot it because there is one more after that..

The adaptor is just completely crap. Its also so inflexible its impossible to put a side panel on after you connect it on virtuslly any case without bending it which causes the terminals to come loose as its using solder and double seam. They need to just issue an announcement to stop people from using them.

Yes I know the native PSU cables have melted but it's MSI which isn't exactly a hallmark for quality. I will only be scared if a Cablemod or Moddiy starts melting.

Agree. I still think there is more to this now we are seeing even PSUs with the correct cables cause issues still..

But at least ASUS has us all covered, you know the company so far with the most melting connectors in their TUF range, that doesn't seem so TUF right now...

Asus, Gigabyte and MSI seem to burn the most. Zotac, Palit, Colorful, PNY have not seen a single case so far. I wonder why

Coincidence? Aren’t the adapters all supplied by nVidia?

Judging by Reddit posts, it may be down to bad tolerances. I’ve seen users saying that they pushed the cable in as far as it would go but it didn’t click. It may then come loose when bent up against the side of the case?

someone showed a pic of one of their pins with plastic inside the actual hole

I’ve only ever bought NV cards, and have always been the one backing them 100%. This isn’t just a dislike for a brand, it’s dangerous and a fire risk.

literally 0 have caught fire... 105c to melt around 350c to ignite
It’s a hazard, end of. They shouldn’t be melting, or smoking.

Had a similar issue with an adjustable desk bought from Thermaltake years ago. They sold it with a cheap plug adapter which literally blew up. They were forced to remove the product, recall and completely change the adapter due to it not meeting standards.
