Check Your 4090's 12vhpwr Connectors To Make Sure They are in Pristine Condition

MSI 4090 Suprim X owner here, something I did notice with the adaptor plugged in, the cable touched my side glass panel of my case, but only just though, not like a lot of force but glancing and my glass panel in that area got red hot when gaming, so I unplugged 1 out of the 4 adapters and dropped the power to 75% (pretty sure it's heat transfer from the cable as it still got fairly warm). After that I Immediately bought a custom cable (or 3) and have had no issues since.

I just found out that NV will void warranties if they use a "3rd party" solution. Wut???

How does this help the situation? What are people suppose to do if they notice that they cannot use the included adapter? What in the world is going on here?

So, I am to assume that if someone is using a Cablemod cable right now they are out of warranty if they need assistance?

Is this only for the 4090 FE cards or is it the same for all the AIB 4090 cards ?

The latest theory I have seen on reddit is tolerance issues for the connectors on AIB cards (since no FE models have shown up with burnt pins).

Basically, we could be telling end users to put square pegs into not-quite-square holes. (Or not properly-sized square holes).

The pictures of plastic *inside* of the (female) pins on some connectors makes me think "Just plug it in properly." may be nearly impossible in some situations.

The reason people are failing to insert the adaptors properly is because they are defective. I noticed no clicking sound on plugging the Nvidia adaptor no matter how hard I pushed it. I just got my Cablemod cable and it gave an obvious clicking sound just like the usual PCIE cables.

It's clearly the adaptors which are faulty. Those native PSU cables likely face the same issue. The 12VHPWR seems to need a very tight QC which not everyone is doing.

I personally would not recommend using the 4090 with anything other than Cablemod or Moddiy.

Have you got a link to the cable?

Mine definitely clicks home.

Australian retailer tells customers their Gainward orders will be delayed because Gainward is going to replace all the adaptor cables that the cards come with.

The retailer says Gainward is not alone, just the first to block shipments of the 4090 and that other brands will also be replacing all their cables

There was a post on Reddit as well where Zotac was also doing this. Maybe Nvidia has informed AIBs behind the scenes to not go ahead with the adaptors.

I did say redesigning.

I also think it could be done for a lot less than £500

I have used motherboards that could provide 600W or more to the CPU and another 300W+ to the GPUs (4 way SLI) that cost less than £500.

To do what I suggested in my OP would require a great deal of things to be redesigned but that is no reason not to.

Pretty sure that having a great deal of things redesigned to put over 1KW through the motherboard is definitely a reason not to do that.

No performance gain, the motherboard definitely costs more, you still have the same amount of cables but the last section is hidden through the motherboard for aesthetic reasons.

Is looking pretty with the side off or with a glass panel a good market for a manufacturer to do it all for.
