Check Your 4090's 12vhpwr Connectors To Make Sure They are in Pristine Condition

The key word is "yet". There is certainly the potential for one, though I think most people with one of these cards will likely be aware of the issue and are probably keeping an eye on things.
I have a 4090, not concerned…… numbers are small compared to how many are out there. Have we had anyone yet on OCUK?

literally 0 have caught fire... 105c to melt around 350c to ignite
That's not important. What is important is the actual damage to the connector. Regardless of how it happens a customer's confidence in the video card is eroded when they see that they can't reliably feed power to the video card.

Nvidia may not have a choice, American 4090 owners can now sign up to sue Nvidia

hmm...lets see where this goes.

After several years you can apply for a fiver in the post.

No burning here but out the box the 4th 8pin connector on the adapter cable is not sending power/signal to the card. My power limit slider is locked at 100% due to only picking up 3 cables connected and not 4, and I should be able to go to 520w (108% - Suprim).

Waiting to receive the corsair 600w cable. If that doesn't work then it's RMA time.

Yet there has been no fires, the amount of melodrama around this has been absurd.
It’s early days. I wouldn’t call it “melodrama” at the bare minimum it’s unsafe and not fit for purpose. We aren’t sure if it’s the adapter or the board itself yet. I doubt the adapter is going to help anyway, completely stupid design.

Proper cable arrived today.
Shame I've nothing to plug it into at the moment :(

Those cables are doing what I thought they would be. Each pair of cables being crimped into a cable direct into the socket of the 16pin. Looks like the sense cables are non-existent on 3 of the pcie8

Nvidia definitely should have don’t this for their adaptor tbh

I agree. The Cablemod cable is insanely high quality and it’s extremely flexible so doesn’t take much to bend it without putting stress on the connector end. It’s an absolute must if you want the 4090 to be reliable considering the situation. Nvidia should have bundled an adaptor of this quality in the box considering I paid nearly 2 grand for this GPU. That monstrosity they bundle instead is shameful really.

Only problem with cablemod is they put a fancy little sheath/cover over the connector to make it look cool but because of how recessed the connector on some GPUs are, the cablemod cable won't go fully into the GPU and make a proper connection unless you remove the sheathe/cover

That's what happens when you have new tech and it's not properly regulated and everyone just does what they want; cablemod is not immune they are selling a cable that doesn't work properly on all 4090 cards without modification
