Check Your 4090's 12vhpwr Connectors To Make Sure They are in Pristine Condition

let’s agree that the self-styled “experts” -Jay2cent, Igor and various other YT channels (except GN) who has pointed the blame at the construction of the connector are all wrong especially with their sweeping statement and jumping to conclusions.

Morale of the saga, don’t put too much weight on those YT contents/Reddit mania

That bend is asking for trouble and I bet that's why its getting loose at the connector end. Per Jony Gerow, bending it horizontally that much will cause the adaptor to melt for sure. Vertical bends are safe (nvidia adaptor is an exception) on third party cables as PCI SIG revised the terminals to prevent them from losing contact in a North to south bend. East to west bends continue to be very dangerous.

That case clearly cannot handle the 4090 and needs the Cablemod 180 adaptor mandatorily. People should stop trying to force it to fit.
We really need to ask ourselves why is it that pcie connectors work fine for well over a decade while these new connectors wet the bed in a matter of days... Regardless of how you see the issues unfold when compared to a try/true standard like pcie connectors they don't measure up, at all.

It's a mix of the Nvidia adaptor being of shoddy build coupled with some AIBs recessing the connector on the GPU so that the latch on the connector doesn't engage. I just read on Reddit that Cablemod cables are incompatible with Inno3D due to the shroud interfering with the sheath causing it to not fit properly.

Native cables have proven safe so far. Yes the MSI one melted but IMO MSI was never a good PSU manufacturer. I will be alarmed if this happens with Corsair, Seasonic and Cablemod products.

There are plenty PCIE connectors being burnt and causing fire.

You don’t hear about it cos no one give a 2 cent about it as it is not interesting.

Miners/gamers burn up their cards and rek their PSU all the time due to 1) improper use and user error (99%) 2) hardware defect or poor quality products

You keep repeating the same point, but it's wrong. We had 8pins melting the last few years...

Reddit user claims based on guidance that the adaptor will not fit in his Asus 4090 Tuf, adaptor does not sit flush with the GPU, sticks out with no clicking.

Assuming user is putting the cable in correctly the issue is bad quality control on the connector or GPU

Anybody used the fasgear connector? I have ordered one (will return if not great).

Was going to go moddiy but 3 week lead time. Cablemod is crazy expensive (yes I know I just spent £1.9k on a 4090 )

Hello mate ;) When did you order. I ordered mine yesterday and has a dispatch date of the 22nd.

;)

I didn't order until 1st November as I was holding off ordering until the release of their 90 degree adapter (to save on shipping) but we all know what happened there :(

Been sent through DPD according to the tracking and still waiting on some bits, so I'm ok with early December. Presumably with a dispatch date +1 week ahead you've had a tracking update?

Was that an in stock cable mate and did you use fast shipping if it was available? I ordered a 3x PCIE cable on the 27th October and still nothing, Still processing here, Now almost 2 weeks in processing.

Yeah I wanted the 90 degree adaptor also but who knows when we will be able to buy those. Thinking of installing my vertical GPU bracket when the cable arrives.

When I track the order I get the following.

We are currently processing your order. The current estimated shipping date is November 22nd, 2022

No great rush really,

Yeah, I ordered a Corsair C series cable for my AX1000, so presumably it was an off-the-shelf and in stock cable. I've had an email to say its been dispatched but the tracking just says "collected from the sender".

Cool thanks for that, Hope you get it soon, Yeah mine wasn't off the shelf despite it being a Seasonic/Asus cable which I'd have thought were both popular PSU's, Thanks.

Agreed. And although I've read that PCI-SEG has submitted change(s). Will that actually fix it? And how long will people have to wait for the revised adapter/connectors?

Meanwhile, the complaints keep piling up.

All I know is I am happy to skip the RTX 4k series, and if AMD offers a nice card for about 500 faster than my 3070 I might just make the jump, I am getting all too comfortable with my 3070 TBH.

My bro still games at 1440P with the RTX 2060 and is playing games completely fine, even on high instead of ultra his games looks awesome.

Another Asus TUF :D Funny thing is this was the card I would have gone for if they were all in stock at MSRP on release day, A blessing in disguise quite frankly as there's nothing wrong with my inno not even any coil whine whatsoever.

It does seem to be Asus being the worst hit which I have to say is rather odd considering usually there's always less of their cards to go around before the other manufacturers, My money is still on it's happening to the GPUs that allow more than 450w power target and coupled with the power spikes or rather more consistent power and not a spike is causing them to melt.

Is there actually any of these that have melted yet that are locked down to 450w? I don't know but that's what my money is on, Lets see when it finally comes to fruition and we eventually find out the real reason.

As per previous page showing the connector doesn't properly on that model
I find it rather disheartening that some actually believe that the customer is to blame for all of this. That some how, some way, they no longer have the sense knowledge to know how to connect a simple plug into a socket correctly. Yet they were able to do that with their motherboards, gpus and other perhiphals for decades now. Yet, I've not seen any mega threads on mass discussing revisions and work arounds to get those type of connectors to work.

It's as if a strawman was created to be knocked down. All I can say is keep knocking that strawman down. Keep knocking it down.
