Check Your 4090's 12vhpwr Connectors To Make Sure They are in Pristine Condition

Yeah I'm not sure how you can look at that image and somehow deduce it's not plugged in correctly. Ridiculous
There's no actual evidence the pic of it fully inserted was taken before the damage occured. The connector isn't melted all over the outside, only a tiny bit on the inside, there's no way youd know if he just plugged it back in to take the pic.

I'm not saying he did or didn't, just there's an awful lot of conclusion jumping going on.

Wrong. He did say he heard it click in
Just saw that but it's hard to believe because it's an Asus TUF card and the majority of posts I have seen on it indicate there is no clicking sound on the TUF because the connector is oriented upside down.

EDIT- Sorry my bad it's a Zotac. Weird the connector melted then

I went back (admittedly only day 2 with the FE) and unplugged the connector to check the condition. Replugged it in, definite 'click' albeit very quiet. Fasgear cable still looking pristine.

I doubt its a batch of connectors. More likely incorrect load balancing across the power pins resulting in some drawing way more than theyre designed too. But the lengths people will go to to defend nvidia from any culpability and essentially victim blame users for faulty products speak volumes about the cult like grip nvidia has over the minds of some people. Truly something to behold
And someone could argue the exact opposite, the lengths some people will go to attack nvidia yada yada. Fact is, I used the connector, you haven't, so after using it I know that it gives different feedback compared to a normal 8pin pcie, so it actually makes sense that people havevn't been plugging it properly, even I wouldn't have not connected it properly if I didn't know everything that's been going around about the situation.

I know it's ridiculous, 20 fridges from brand XXX catch fire no one cares.
omg omg 12 nvidia adapters melted a bit the world is ending!!!!!!

Plenty of Indesit tumble dryers went up in flames including one that we had. The investigator was looking for anything he could to blame us for it. We ended up getting compensation and everything replaced that was damaged. Turned out there was no guard in place incase lint made it’s way to the heating element. They had to go to every customer and add this guard, and sone still caught fire.

I would say if 20 fridges or dryers catch fire, people care. The GPU situation although none have gone up in flames, is a design floor which shouldn’t happen at this level.

To be clear its not the fault of the user entirely if the 12VHPWR is proving to be troublesome to connect. The native 12VHPWR cables from Corsair/Cablemod are extremely easy to insert and pretty much click instantly, although you may need to remove the shroud on the Cablemod for some GPUs. Also they connect so tightly that I almost felt like I was going to rip the GPU out of the slot when I tried to remove mine yesterday, which is as it should be considering 450W of current flowing through the connector so there is no headroom or safety margin. In comparison, the nvidia adaptor did not click very audibly on mine and was very easy to remove and reinsert. Its the nvidia adaptor which is just faulty in design and giving the spec a bad name. Intel is planning to use this connector on their data center GPUs launching next month and they would have done their due diligence on it looking at this situation. Its the adaptor causing the issue and since Nvidia designed it for FE primarily the Asus TUF has it the worse since they reversed the orientation, something nvidia had not foreseen.

Funny you should say that because we had an Indesit which luckily against my better judgement I took out an extra 4yr warranty for which was a blessing in disguise in the end because 4 times it was repaired in the space of like 2 1/2 years and on the 4th occasion it was the high charge capacitor that blew up and filled our kitchen with smoke luckily we were in the room as it happened so quickly unplugged it.

Engineer came out yet again and I refused a repair on the basis of the 4 times a mechanical failure happened on the basis of the 3 times exclusion on the extended warranty we'd simply had enough and wanted a replacement it was a fire risk, The Curry's team knowhow engineer was very narcy and said I can repair it here and now in a manner of a lot of people try the same thing to get a replacement so I basically told him if you think I'm keeping an appliance that has failed 4 times already and on the 4th could have set our house alight I said you can shove it and get out!

He put on his notes I refused a repair, Got a call from Curry's to say the engineer said I refused a repair and so I would not get a replacement to which I replied I'll take you to court on the basis of your ******** lieing smallprint on your extended warranty that clearly says after 3 mechanical failures you can refuse and request a brand new replacement, Left it at that for a day or 2 then got a call back from a manager who said they were wrong and will be issuing a replacement, Told them given me a voucher instead as we wouldn't go near an Indesit again for as long as I live l, Got a voucher and put it towards a different brand and got a new one.

I don't normally ever get extended warranties on products or appliances but I did get a good offer for this one in store for the extra 4 years at the time and looking back I am so glad we did, It was well known about the fire risks of certain Indesit dryers but you had to look for it on the net.

Moral of the story these big companies and corpo's will do everything in their power to hide this sort of negativity on their beloved products just like Nvidia is doing now trying to sweep it under the carpet, The longer they stay quiet the worse it will get for them if it turns out to be an actual design issue of the GPU itself, Time will tell but they're not helping themselves with the silence.

We had the same attitude from the inspection, however my dryer went up in flames damaging my kitchen and other items. Luckily I had an extinguisher and managed to put it out but that made a complete mess in itself. My son has a lung condition and he first noticed the smoke as I was upstairs at the time. We both had to go to hospital afterwards due to smoke inhalation and have blood gas tests etc. The inspector/indesit engineer said “you should never leave them on when out or not in the room” to which I was shocked and said “show me where it states in any advertisement or terms and conditions that you have to babysit an appliance incase it bursts into flames”. We were then put in contact with their legal team who tried to bully and fob us off, but our solicitor rejected it all and set out our demands. They accepted full liability, had to replace our damaged appliances, clothes and kitchen, and pay is compensation. Of course with the terms that we couldn’t take them to court if we accepted.

Now I never leave the dryer on when I’m not in close proximity. It could have been much worse. I would advise everyone to have a co2 fire extinguisher in their kitchen. We had a powder one as it was installed by the landlord at the time this happened and although it did the job, what a mess.

Sounds like you had a worse experience than me, I've no idea what would have happened if we weren't in the same room, And I agree it's becoming increasingly a necessity to have an extinguisher these days.

Another Zotac Trinity 4090 melted and its the nvidia adaptor as usual and the same pin
