Ched Evans

He's (rightly or wrongly) served his time and now he should be able to get on with his career. Otherwise, what's the point in releasing people from prison?

Well he has not served all of his time. He is on early release and is still serving the remaining few years. He appeal was rejected too. His girlfriends family / the owners of his website are facing serious legal prosecution for their behaviour with the website. He has still not admitted to doing anything wrong.

Not specific to this case but I really don't get why people have to admit they've done something wrong.

He's claiming his innocence - of course he's not going to admit he's done something wrong.

You seem to know a lot about this Tummy ;)

Absolutely pathetic 'jibe' aside.

Anyone whom is involved with employment law, working in the public sector (specifically education) will know this. There are absolutely huge ramifications for an employer taking on a registered sex offender, especially given the community role of football clubs.

Part of a persons rehabilitation will be admitting he has done wrong. Remember his appeal was rejected.

Cheer up Tummy, it's a joke. I would have said it to anybody that post that.

And just because he was convicted and maybe had an appeal rejected, that doesn't mean it's not possible that he is actually innocent. People do get wrongfully convicted of crimes.

I absolutely agree (strangely) however the evidence against him must be damning. It is not that it went to an appeal and the conviction was upheld, it was rejected in the absolute.

Irrelevant of personal opinions on criminals, admitting wrong doing goes a long way in their rehabilitation process, internally and externally.

If you are absolutely sure you did nothing wrong you are not going to say sorry. Tysons appeal was refused but now much more evidence is known even the prosecution have written how badly represented he was and them and members of the jury have said they wouldn't have given the guilty judgement had they known the full facts. I don't know enough about the Evans case but if I was adamant she was a willing participant I wouldn't admit I was wrong either, even if it meant an easier time getting to play football again.

Threats to staff and their families... seriously what is wrong with people.

I would guess they don't mean physical threats. If the clubs main sponsors all back out and puts the club in a position where it cannot run financially, then the staff would all be made redundant. That's likely the threat to staff and their families.

If Oldham is made to back out, i don't think he has much chance to sign with any club in the country. The media pressure is obviously turning all the sponsors away from the prospective club, which in turn leaves them with little choice.

We do not know enough about the case to comment on his guilt. What we do know is that he was found guilty, convicted, released early to continue serving his sentence outside prison and has had his appeal rejected.

Given the absolutely horrible website that has emerged too, and the process of prosecution taken out against whomever is responsible is again pretty damming.

There are employment opportunities away from football. Evans is free to seek alternative employment, people seem fixated on him becoming a footballer again.

Again you don't stop a convicted killer through drink driving being able to drive again once they have served their time so why stop him playing football. An f1 driver could glass someone and return to F1. I think this has become to much about peoples apathy with modern footballers and a stick to hit back with.

Until the job requires background checks that would not allow him to continue as a footballer with a sexual offense he should play.

Sky Sources: Oldham board members and sponsors received death threats which influenced their decision.

Saw this too:

@Natpirks

disgusting re Evans. 1 board member was told the address of where his daughter works, and was told she'd be raped if the club proceeds.

What's wrong with people.

Because that's what he's trained to do maybe?

You'd probably complain if he went on the dole or a government sponsored training scheme too.

What is wrong with people indeed. I'm sure the sponsors were already half way out the door when Oldham first mentioned signing Evans. They don't need people sending death/rape threats to their families. They're just as bas as Evans himself.

He has not finished his sentence.

I bet if he went for a job at Mcdonalds or tesco stacking shelves they will continue to banner wave.

Depends on his role; how he would deal with any job that had contact with young or at risk people, among other things.

Same thing applies to those who have defended him, threatened and forced the victim to change her identity five times and the people behind the Evans website.

It is all disgusting behaviour.

Because that's what he's trained to do maybe?

I have no problem with him seeking alternative employment, I have no problem with him wanting to be a footballer again, however clubs do not have to employ a convicted sex offender. I have said this all along.

It does not matter if he has trained to be a footballer, his conviction and status as a sex offender means he has changes to his life. A teacher who has a qualification in teaching and a degree cannot return to teaching if convicted, they like many other people, would look for alternative employment.

That's good to know, have his persecutors published a list that they're happy for him to do? what's the plan if a football club offers him a contract? get out the pitchforks and torch his house during the night?

Same thing applies to those who have defended him, threatened and forced the victim to change her identity five times and the people behind the Evans website.

Much of her ill treatment is tit for tat as a result of the mobs baying for his blood, both sides are to blame and particularly the media for whipping people into a frenzy.

Having read the court notes, my own belief is that he is a stupid boy but has been done over by the police/legal system. The girl needs sending to jail also as her story is plain and simply unbelievable, claiming to remember nothing at all is just too convenient even when the medical witnesses claim she didnt have enough alcohol to have caused anything more than slurred words. Too much evidence in my opinion leads to a bit of inappropriate misadventure but not rape.

While we are on the subject of people being fixated with him becoming a footballer again, google Marlon King. Now there is a scumbag, sexual assault, fraud, handling stolen cars, unprovoked assault etc, still playing away.

Lee Hughes, killed someone through dangerous driving, fled the scene and turned himself in 36 hours later, conveniently too late for an alcohol test. Came out of jail and played for, guess who? Oldham. Done for Sexual assault and went on to play for Notts County.

Graham Rix, underage sex and on the register for 10 years, managing some little team in wessex.

Patrick Kluivert, Killed someone death by dangerous driving, went on to play for Ajax, Milan, Barcelona, Newcastle, Valencia, PSV and Lille

Mike Tyson, raped a beauty pageant girl, jailed and straight back into boxing for millions.

Phil Taylor (Dartist) Convicted indecent assault on 2 women in 99. didnt stop him playing on.

Adrian Sutil Glassed a guy and was convicted, back racing...
there are plenty more out there too.
