Chemical attack in London...

There is zero impact of immigration on minimum wage

This is basic economics.

Obviously the 'minimum wage' itself is set by the goverment of the day but the idea that immigration as 'zero' impact as to where it's set and has 'zero' impact on the ability/ amount of people able to move beyong the 'minimum' is indeed an example of very 'basic' economics being employed by the person making the claim....

The other issue is that, proportionally, so many of these immigrants don't actually do much useful work at all either!

9% of people in the combined Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnic group were unemployed – the highest rate out of all ethnic groups. 7% of people from the black and Asian 'other' ethnic groups were unemployed. 3% of white people were unemployed – the lowest rate out of all ethnic groups.

This is interesting, show me that purchasing power adjusted data :) most of us are all docklands workers still - just behind a computer screen, for a disgusting wage (office worker on an average London salary cannot afford to live alone, its worse than docklands workers in the early XX century). Both me and my wife are 1 percenters and still can barely afford a house in a nice area. 50 years ago we would have owned 4000sqm Victorian mansion(by earning top 1% then, not earning nominal value today obviously) without breaking a sweat.

This is not basic economy, not when most of those wages from immigrants are going back to their home country.
You are using basic economy, so you know the relationship between supply and demand, yet you seem to ignore its effect on wages :D
You're definitely not a top 1% earner if you can barely afford a house.

Both of us not entitled to personal allowance if that makes it easier.
Still, I dont want to splash 7k/m for a decent house in a nice area - anything decent(4/5 bed detached) in areas like Richmond is already 1.5m+ hence I am stuck in a flat.

But D.P. will pop in with some dumb talking point about immigrants being great when he really means some group of legal immigrants including both French Bankers and successful asylum seekers can be said to be a net positive...

Bundling legal, skilled immigration together with illegal immigration then presenting it as a net positive to the country reminds me so much of how the mortgage equity markets were handled by the banks in the same way in the early 2000s (as described in the movie "The Big Short").... that didn't end too well :(

Heard he was from the Newcastle area.

Then later discovered he wasn't a Geordie at all

whys the news so misleading? they should have said convicted sex offender migrant who may have links in the Newcastle area.

And then there's more than one Newcastle in the UK

Your economic woes have absolutely zero tondo with immigration (for starters , look at what percentage of tax burden is supported by the richest 5% now compared to 50 years ago)

You talk of supply and demand but seem to completely ignore the demand aspect. As i said, labour market is dynamic and flexible so unemployment and wages don't change with immigration or any other population change. This is completely obvious given the labour and wage statistics for the last 50 years.

Are you blind?
Are you deaf?
Are you a Guardian reader?
Are you not concerned at the £8m a day bill for hotels?
Are you not bothered that potential rapist, pedophiles, terrorist etc have gone missing in the UK?
Are you interested in living in Sweden?
Finally: Are you ******* ******
Should direct your anger at the government who have wilfully underfunded our immigration services for over a decade now to the point we have this backlog. We would be processing people much faster in fact we used too… if this wasn’t the case.

Obviously I will have to add you to that Ignore list as you are showing all the warnings signs of being a wet sponge.

Before I add you, I would like to remind you of labours market flooding in the early 2000's that allowed them to control the minimum wage, and how these current boat numbers would suit labour once again.

Apologies Mods and all if I went off topic.
So your going to
Vote Tory for more of the same immigration problems then I take it?

OH Come on..Not another one to add to bin
Tell me I’m wrong?

Why would you put me on ignore for saying that?

We have underfunded our immigration services, our processing numbers have reduced a considerable amount to the point we have a massive backlog.

If we were processing asylum claims like we did in the past, we could deport accordingly, but we’re not?

Our govement has full control over this, it’s either intentional, or unintentional incompetence.

So what is it?

The police took a heck of a long time to issue a description. It was only pressure from the public on the MET police X account, after they asked the public for help in their search for a "man from Newcastle" forced them to release the details of Abdul. And this was about 18 hours after the event.

They think we're stupid...no, they know the majority are stupid.
