Children not allowed squash in school !

It's sustenance, not flavour that should be important.

Also cut a lemon and squeeze it in for a natural flavour with no crap in it. Come on now, don't complain about the schools stance as its a perfectly good one.

contradiction there ^^

I put it in another post that they are not allowed flavoured water and the other kids are encouraged to tell on any child breaking these rules . It is a good idea but lemon in water is still flavoured and a lot of the other people above would say now that you are not giving your children water if your putting lemon in it

Nonsense water and jacket potatoes can not be compared. All children should cherish water, and its a parents fault if its seen as a poor, unflavoured choice of hydration. It will be them that has helped them form said opinion.

I understand the reference about water and jacket spud, but you cannot force somebody to like something. for all we know this child also gags when drinking water.

There is a difference of that and having the child just say they don't like it to get something else.

I don't get it. I'm sorry about your daughter and even with this staring you in the face you're happy thinking 'squash' is ok ?

Seriously ?

Squash is fine, seriously.

This nanny state is getting ridiculous. Can't drink squash in school? Get a grip. Are the staff at the school even qualified to make that decision? Pretty sure things like this are up to the FSA and not schools? Beyond that, it is down to the parent.

What is next? Dictating bedtime?

So I offer my child a water melon , He doesn't like it so therefore I am not going to force him to eat it as that in my mind is physical abuse ! My children are given choices .

With you on this one, encouraging children to try a range of foods, etc. is good within reason forcing them to eat certain foods even if they don't like it is just lazy parenting at best or abuse at worst.

Moderate amounts of anything isn't going to significantly impact on a childs health tho I would personally try to avoid anything that has significant levels of artificial sweetners. Within reason the sugars aren't even really a problem its artificial colors/flavorings that tend to produce hyperactivity and behavior and/or attention problems.

. Squash contains WATER at a ration of 5% squash and 95% water.

Squash contains WATER I am not giving it to him neat !!

I never said you where giving it neat, but I am saying there is something wrong if you have a child that refuses to drink "plain" water. 5% of rubbish and 95% water still contains 5% rubbish.

Honestly I think you need to re evaluate your children have choices attitude. It's perfect up-to a point.

Btw I wish you a speedy recovery post surgery.

seems like there are a lot of people out to have a go at Skywalker, cant really understand why.

Juice which contains no added sugar seems perfectly fine, its not like the child isnt getting any water... he might grow into it later in life. Seems a better alternative to taking the juice option away and forcing water which he wont like and will hardly drink during the day, especially in summer - seems daft.

Can you email the school as you cant get out and about? Phone the head an arrange a telephone meeting to get a handle on what the hell they're doing?

just had a thought, could you try filtering the water to take away the metallic taste? Not sure if that works but might be worth a go?

I see the contradiction in my previous post i was pointing out a natural flavour over fruit juices though.

I think you will find if you watch that most of the sportspeople drink some water also.
They might take a drink of some description, isotonic or some such, but they will rinse and swallow mouthfuls of water after the other to rinse away the sugars in the mouth to preserve against decay and damage. Same when they munch on their bananas.

There is no reason for kids to drink sportsdrinks, should be water, most sportsdrinks even say on the side of them not suitable for children, or only for adult consumption. Hilarious what the marketing people manage.

I remember when I was at school and they made my mate chuck away his can of Shandy he bought that was 0.01% proof because it was alcoholic :o:p

Schools :D:o:p

Think of it rationally... Water is important so why taint it with additives, all I'm saying is that anything in excess borders on being bad for you.

Like you I'm not keen on water but have you tried bottled / filtered ?

So you only drink 100% water, you never consume any other liquid?

It's not "tainted" you change the flavour of it by added a little bit of squash.

There is a massive thing here your missing , I never said refuses. He doesn't like .

Please if you think I need to re think my attitude of giving children choices then please do but I think a lot of members may jump on you as there my kids not soldiers . But please also bare in mind I treat all 3 of my kids the same and one is a toddler not wanting to eat anything but crisps and chips (she doesn't get that) also a disabled 7 year old that I have to remind everyday what she does like as she forgets and the 10 year old in question that will drink anything g except plain water and eat and try anything from sushi to pickled snails and frogs legs. (Come to think of it there is only one food he doesn't eat and that is tomatoes but loves ketchup , so I should for e him to eat to tomatoes?)

P.s recovery going well , much love

Also lol at people saying "kids must drink water!!!!!!"

Kids have a choice and like certain things, you can't force them to drink something. Kids goes through phases of liking and disliking certain things, it happens. I disliked water as a child but hey ho I probably turned out a lot more successful than most of you in here screaming don't drink squash lulz!!!!! how could such a thing possibly happen!

Stop being pathetic and wise up, a but of squash is nothing. Anything in moderation is fine, even going through a stage of unhealthiness is natural and happens.

But once again ocuk has no perspective.

Jeez some of the nanny state opinions in this thread make me twitch. WATER AND NOTHING BUT WATER NOW GET TO BED IT IS 6PM!!!

I feel sorry for children brought up like that :(

The only thing my children are banned from drinking in soft drinks is caffeine, we allow fizzy drinks while eating food but other than that they actually really enjoy diluted orange juice or cranberry juice. Some times a orange juice and lemonade.

Skywalker: Ignore the idiots, hippies and ignorant. I am father of two and you are doing nothing wrong. I agree with your stance that the school is just being ridiculous but that is just going to be down to the few bad parents ruining it for everyone else.
