Chinese Grand Prix 2011, Shanghai International Circuit - Race 3/19

I really don't see the problem, all of the teams and drivers face the same restriction. It was just bad luck, it will (and probably has) happened to others.

Anyway, at least it spices up quali a little bit for us :)

yea but everyone should get a fair and even chance , its not right that pretty much everyones qualifying laps were ruined by people squabbling for position and trying to create room from the car infront while impeding those behind so they dont lose track position.

pretty much all of the cars were following close enough to lose downforce

yea i know im not really bothered about him starting so far down i just think it spoils qualifying when stuff like this happens even if it apears more exciting for you guys.

people could lose the championship for this sort of thing :P we know how close they have gone some years.

no doubt schumacher will get taken out at the first corner and i will start cheering for alonso instead :)

Not quite, he used 1 set on the 2nd session and 2 in the last session, however the second set of the last session didn't do a complete lap, not sure how well that will preserve them though...

If it's a 3-stop race tomorrow then Hamilton is looking good on the tyre front, just a shame the Red Bull is again a massive amount quicker (except Webbers, that one's slow :p)

Although we saw in Australia a similar gap (with similar-ish cooler temps) during Qualifying and the McLarens were able to be much closer on Race Pace but Vettel is still gonna win unless either of the McLarens gets a stunning start...

Kinda good to see the renaults quite far back so their uber starts won't affect the Vettel/Button/Hamilton battle into T1, on the other hand Petrov looked genuinely quick today so a shame for him

I thought Brundle/Coulthard were expecting two stops - ie three sets of tyres to be used

Will be interesting to see who comes out ontop at McLaren given the usual grid is reversed tomorrow (between the two) , Can Hammy go all out and yet still prreserve life in the tyres or will JB come out on top again

Not sure whether Hammy's totally fresh set will make a huge difference (especially if he needs to hammer them after the 1st stop) and whether he can still have a decent race pace on the harder to make everything count

Feel for Petrov not being able to attempt Q3 , if he can repeat the electric start from last week, will he be up amongst the Ferrari's or even further forward? Can Rosberg get a decent start to muscle past (and stay ahead) of McLarens. Alonso could have course start brilliantly and slow everyone down as Renault did last week (I hope not but he is on the clean side after all)

Unless his car breaks down, I can see vettel poleing and winning every single race of the season at the rate he's going. He's got the quickest car and the skills to use it to the max.
Unless of course this roll he's on is a bubble which will burst at some point. As it stands though it does look he has the 2011 WDC sewn up.

Set the alarm, woke up and thought sod that, just finished watching it. Been burning the candle at both ends to much.

Stonking lap by Vettle, I fear it's going to be like last year that mclaren will only be equal on certain tracks and RBR and Vettle making less mistakes this year, what happened to Webber.

Wonder why Eddie Jordan never turns up for this GP? Think he hasn't been here for any of the 3 China races the beeb have covered, can only think he can't get a visa for some reason.

Be a slightly different grid walk tomorrow Jake said on Chris Moyles show Martin isn't doing it because it's a long trek up to the commentary box so Jake and DC are going to do it together, don't think Jake has done one before?

Practice One - Red Bull rampant in China
You had to look for the happy faces in the Shanghai paddock at the top of the Friday morning timesheets, and at the bottom. No question, Red Bull trounced their opposition in this opening free practice session, with Sebastian Vettel ending up a whopping 0.615s ahead of team mate Mark Webber, 1m 38.739s to 1m 39.354s.

Highlights - Chinese Grand Prix first practice
World champion Sebastian Vettel once again shows his dominance over the rest of the field by comfortably setting the fastest time in the first practice session in Shanghai.

Red Bull's Mark Webber sets the fastest time in the first practice session at Sepang while Renault have a miserable morning with both Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov suffering brake problems.

Welcome back AcidHell2 :p - I use the word ominous a lot in relation to RBR, but that pole lap was

Especially when you consider these aren't their strongest tracks historically and that the gap to 7th place is nearly 3 seconds!

Practice Two - Vettel sets Shanghai standard
Sebastian Vettel continued to set the pace for Red Bull here in Shanghai on Friday afternoon, but instead of being two seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren the gap was only 0.166s, and Jenson Button was only 0.247s away.

No mention of how it malfunctioned, unless it stayed full open at the hairpin he just out-braked himself.

His excuses for not making it into Q3 are getting old... Mercedes would be better getting someone who can qualify in the top 10 rather than Schumi who blames the car after every session.
... its been explained many times already its a problem both drivers have been effected by...

schumacher didnt orginally blame the car either he thought he outbreaked himself but the team have since said the problem was the rear wing , if you didnt notice in the practice sessions the rear wing had a sensor attached to the endplates a lot of the time. it is not a bs excuse .

it wont stop the armchair experts at ocuk though...

,mercedes have the most effective DRS system but the airflow wont properly attach to the rear wing.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90588 i think scarbs tweeted about why he thinks it happens aswell

Pleased for Button, although I still fancy Hamilton to beat him into the first corner. Button hasn't been that fast a starter the last couple of years.

I've a bad feeling Hamilton won't finish this race.

Yet another good effort by Rosberg.

Hopefully Alonso won't have the bad luck he's had at the start of the races so far this year. The race really needs anyone to get ahead of Vettel at the start, to have a look to see what pace they have in hand to get ahead.

Looking forward to the start, obviously we can only see one winner.

Even though I doubt it would make much difference to the result, it would be great if someone could get infront of Vettel. I suspect Hamilton could get around Button at the start, but reckon Button will manage his tyres better - Hamilton will push too hard. Vettel is overdue for a bad start though!

just caught Q3, were was webber?

gap from 1st to 2nd is ridiculous.

bet vettel wasnt even pushing that, prob just a banker lap.

not sure about the red overalls, is it a sign of things to come? red car next year? (its the last year its mclaren mercedes isnt it?)

hope something happens at the start tomorrow or it will be a bit of a cake walk for vettel(again).

i think hamilton will jump button but mainly because he cant stand to be 2nd best. prob take too much out of his tires doing so.

probaly gonnna stop watching f1 tbh, its blatently obvious that redbull have a major advantage over the rest of the teams with the flexing front wing.
I expect vettel to wrap up the world championships in the first 8 races tbh

That's another 10th place finish for Schumacher then. Every race something breaks on his car, so he's either unlucky or Rosberg is sabotaging the car ;)

I don't buy the DRS problem, his final run ended when he locked up and run wide. Pushing too hard.
