Chinese Grand Prix 2012, Shanghai - Race 3/20

The release was fine. The drivers gave each other space (just about) and it wasn't an issue.
Nothing like the incident the other year where Vettel practically ran Lewis into the pitboxes :/

Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like they actually take a sensible approach on that rule then.

someone with eagle eyes spotted only one merc had the front duct on

Thats only for cooling isn't it? As the intake for the DDRS is within the rear wing side?

Good win by Nico, well deserved but shame for MS once again but he was never going to challenge for the win, was there anything said about the number of moves Lewis made on the straight? I thought it was 1 move only and you were then not allowed to move back to the racing line for this year? Brundle touched on it on Sky and thought it was maybe ok.

Nothing more was said about it as far as I am aware. I thought it was slightly borderline, but I guess it was deemed ok. Haven't seen a replay though, and with so much going on I didn't get much time to think about it!

yea msc was never going to challenege for the win , his pitstop would probbaly have been another 3+ seconds longer to get the wheel properly fitted and he just lost to much time to everyone behind him who stopped earlier.

if he would have stayed out like rosberg he probably would have been in 2nd at the end though.

i dont think any of the teams really understands the tyre wear fully yet or atleast they didnt before today

We'll only know if Merc have actually sorted their tyre wear issues next weekend. I have the feeling they haven't going by what Rosberg said (i.e. the weather being kind to them).

i dont think it will be as bad as people expect

aus = to hard on the tyres
mal = not hard enough of the tyres
china = about right

i guess it depends on how stable the weather is over the race weekend to how well they can dial in the settings but i dont see them beeing as fast as mclaren in race trim very often

No need, McLaren will find a way to lose races they should be winning anyway :D

We are going to some hot races soon though right? Wouldn't expect that to help their tyre wear. The fact is not even Mercedes know what is going on or what to expect though, so I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The last 15-20 laps of that race were great, even if it was a bit manufactured by crappy tyres (Raikkonen's cliff antics were shocking )

Great race by Rosberg, not what I think anyone expected but whether conditions or just improvements they didn't munch the tyres, shame Schumi had the problem as who knows how that would've unfolded, he may not have had the pace of Rosberg but he was up there with the McLarens...

Hamilton is a bit odd this year, on the one hand he's had pretty uneventful races, some nice overtakes but also some failures to get passed when the team does another boneheaded decision, but ultimately 3rd for 3 races in a row, and now leading the championship, certainly a distinct improvement over the middle to end of last year :p
