My brain was struggling to work out what was going on after seeing several replays. No way I'd manage to do that in the car!

Yes, but in most ways the pit wall can do the calculations anyway. If they know what mode he's in for engine/fuel usage they can pretty much get very accurate idea of where his fuel usage is though how he's driving will effect that and Merc might not have great idea's of fuel usage behind other cars :p

But ultimately they can say "we need to be in mode C for 30 laps and we can go full out for the rest". So it's mostly a case of telling him which mode to be in and saving fuel where he can. Most likely this will eventually work out as Rosberg a distant second to Hamilton and he can just turn engine down to stay ahead of third and likely save more than enough fuel.

It's difficult for them because Alonso maybe can't even see Massa let alone Vettel on the other side but that far down the straight I think he can assume there are cars there and making a shoving move is a bad idea.


SO why is everyone suddenly having telemetry problems, seems odd.

Later in the race as with after the safety car you can roughly know when it's safe to go full pace. But early in the race, heavy fuel, green track then really pushing the tires hard by braking late into corners and heavy acceleration is a bad idea. He can push the car advantage in the final stint WAY more than he could now.



Poor Massa, rear wheel damage due to the contact? Making it very difficult to get the tire on?

If so hammy would come out in 6th at the moment :)

Rosberg is either saving fuel or is having a crap drive. Or is there underlying damage from the bumper cars.
 
I feel seriously awful for Williams, everytime there's something positive for them, it all gets wiped out with issues. They must have broken a mirror or something...
