Choosing a Turbo...

Thanks for the replys guys :)

Nest option is recirc or vent external wastegate/screamer pipe. Are sceamer pipes even legal??

Watched a GT4 get mapped with a GT3076r running a screamer pipe and it was LOUD on the road, not even sure I like the noise.Maybe the years are catching up on me :D

Is the rest of your engine up to the job of taking the load from a GT35 setup?

Yes :)

Ross racing pistons
Eagle rods
etc etc :)

Had a chat with forced performance and the first turbo(one in picture) will fill my needs, which was the 3052(3076r)

They also do a slightly bigger one which is between a 35r and the 3052/3076r so think I am going to go for that one :D

is so hard :(

I have a set goal in my head which is around 11.5sec 1/4's with terms around 125 which would make you think choosing a turbo is easy.

Nope.

Do I buy a all in one shizzle which SHOULD get me to my goal like the below kit, based on the GT3076r.

or do I over spec with say a GT35 and its extra lag but safe in the knowledge my mother could drive it to my goals?

Both my friends will be in the 11's so cant mess this up :o

Take a look at the compressor maps for each turbo and find the one which will meet your requirements most efficiently. You may find that the larger turbo is less efficient at the levels you are interested in (although that may not be a bad thing as you may be able to shift your goals higher assuming everything else can take the increase in power).

If this was me I'd be getting into the maths and working it all out properly rather than just grabbing the largest turbo available and potentially accepting merely 'adequate' output. It's annoying when you spend a lot of money and find later that your intercooler is no longer capable of cooling your charge enough, or that the turbo's peak flow speed doesn't match your intended peak torque/power band and so you could have actually produced more power with a different unit.

However, if the maths and relevant maps suggest that both units are capable of meeting your requirements, then go for the larger unit :)
