Chromecast

I just picked one of these up from Tesco for 18 quid.

I plugged it directly into one of my AV amps' HDMI inputs. And it working sweet.

The beauty of this is now I don't have to boot my PLEX HTPC up and faff with keyboard and mouse just to watch TV shows.

I can choose choose them from my Ipad from the plex app as I have Plex running on my server...Its great for BBCi player too as the GUI on my freesat is not the best....Its so convenient. :)

I don't watch TV shows on my Projector as by the time I turn it on and pull the creen down etc...

Its perfect for just dipping in and out :)

Will the new chromecast audio stream video through the hdmi as well as music out via optical? Or will the audio model only stream music over hdmi?

If only audio will work, why won't the audio model output video&audio both over the hdmi like the original chromecast v1 model?

You can't stream prime. I guess Amazon have no plans to since they have their own fire stick.

While you can't stream/cast via the Prime video app, you can load up Prime in Chrome and then cast it.
No ideal, but it is a way around it.

Hi All,

Does anyone successfully use of these with a DLNA server?

I have a Buffalo NAS which I currently use to stream to a PS3 etc. but am struggling to find an Android App which will confidently pick up from DLNA and allow casting?

Thanks,
Chris

I bought one for exactly the same reason. To Stream from a WD NAS.
My 2010 Panny Plasma is now in the bedroom and it has no MP4 support.

Chromecast and BubbleUPnP gets round this and it works flawlessly.

:)

I am likely to use the DAC in my AV amp, instead of using the optical out into a standalone DAC.

Can a 2015 video chromecast stream FLAC audio to an AV amp over HDMI? I wouldn't need a separate audio chromecast if so. Provided that the mobile app interface works for the audio on a video chromecast.

The Audio chromecast only has 3.5mm jack or optical out, no HDMI.

I suspect you need to find an app that can play flac and cast, I don't know if bubble can do that.

I'm flirting with the idea of getting a chromecast, but I don't REALLLLLY need one. I'm just annoyed I didn't grab one at christmas with the free 20quid google play credit (got one for a family member though.)

I can already push videos to my TV from phone, playto my tv from my PC, already has a lot of apps (netflix, amazon, iplayer etc etc) on the tv and a ps4 as well as spotify (our most used, we always have music on). The only thing my tv can't do is accept screencast from my phone.

So, what are games like from a phone? Is it possible to connect a ps4 controller (bluetooth) and still screen to a chromecast? Is there anything else it can do that I'm missing or don't know about?

Chromecast Audio is only £15 from a certain Curry house.

14 quid now, as I type...

Had I not just bought several, I'd be all over this!

The Audio is a great bit of kit though, and when they're grouped it's damn sweet being able to housecast to them all at once, or not have to suffer herself's Twilight soundtrack...
