Cigarette Prices

Fair enough if thats been debunked but how ever you look at E-Cigs, even though they look appealing, until the day real research comes out, they cannot be deemed as safe or a "healthy" option to tobacco. I understand its not you having a rant or being defensive. You have very good points. I'm also not saying tobacco is great and as much as I enjoy smoking, I understand others find it repulsive and I can see why but each to their own.

Afew of my close friends use E-Cigs and they admit they feel much healthier but people also said the same after switching from full fat Coke-a-cola to Diet Coke :)

I 100% believe that e-cigs can be solidly referred to as a "healthier" (note: not "healthy", as the words construe different meanings) alternative to cigarettes. The ingredients of e-juice and physiological reactions to use are nearly enough in themselves to solidify that point.

I do not believe that they are 100% safe ... but honestly, nothing is. Take a walk near a busy road and you're taking in carcinogens. Drink too much water and your brain will swell. The thing is, we think nothing of walking near that busy road because our bodies don't react. They can deal with the levels, and will do so for the remainder of our lives.

In twenty years' time I might well grow an extra limb from the back of my head due to vaping, but right now my body is telling me that things are a hell of a lot better than they were with tobacco smoke. In fact, I'm sitting here vaping at the moment while the wife lifts weights in the same room. Couldn't do that when I was smoking! :D

That's good enough for me, for now. :)

What's the problem with Diet Coke, though? Only a problem if you're one of the few who suffer adverse reactions to aspartame/phenylalanine, surely?

I stopped when they went from 5.90 to £6+ didnt realize until recently that they are now £9 around london for 20 as stopped 3 years ago. same brands cost £3 in SA so uk getting ripped off.

A Dutch colleague of mine was going mental over the prices when he came over for work last week. He couldn't believe how much it was nowadays.

Said that he'd promised himself that once the price got over a certain point he would quit. Now it's rapidly approaching that limit, but he admits he'll pay it regardless. Blames his ex-wife for putting him back on the fags during the stress of their divorce. :D:o

that raises a good question to the smokers here.. how much does your weekly habbit cost you?

costs me ~ £8 a week for roll ups, a 50g pouch lasts me about 5 days, if i was having to buy 20 cigs a day at £8 i think id have to quit

Dad & step-mum will shift 60 cigs per day between them @ £8.50 per pack. Each to their own, but that works out at £25.5 / day, £178.5 / week, almost £10k / year! I do drink, but at the same time I'm glad I don't run up anywhere near that cost.

50g of baccy in the UK £10+ , price of 50g baccy in Belgium £3.50... glad I can get lots when i make my trips there.

I don't smoke so it doesn't cost me a penny for them.

:D

I'm just wondering how far gov can push it before a large underground market springs up.

I find it bemusing how some smokers try to assure the non-smokers that they:

1. are not addicted, and;
2. are doing it for enjoyment

On a proven chemical/biological level they change your body to *need* the chemical fixes. That is not a true sense of enjoyment, but one that is faked by the body in order to assure you continue with the habit as the body adapts to get used to the Nicotine.

There is absolutely nothing cool, fun, sociable or enjoyable about inhaling a load of toxic chemicals that can cause Oral, Throat, Stomach, Lung or Bowel cancer (primaries before metastases) in yourself, or those around you who do not smoke. Neither is having yellow teeth, yellow fingers, ageing prematurely, horrendous coughs, lowered immune system, foul odour or affecting unborn children.

It's already here the amount of fake/non duty paid cigarettes around is massive.

I love it when the price goes up as I tend to justify my tech purchases by how much i have saved by not smoking, so means I have a bigger budget :D.

I wouldn't consider there to be a problem with the odd enjoyable cigar, though. As long as it's almost the size of your forearm.

I smoke a pipe, I can go for months without smoking it or feeling the need to smoke it. I smoke it purely for relaxation and enjoyment.

I quit smoking 2 years ago after 23 year's. Looking back I often thought I'd rather have no legs than quit smoking. It's crazy but when your addicted your addicted. Best thing I ever did was quit and it's quite nice now that price hikes are on energy so I don't feel left out on getting ripped off :-P
