CIMA...... Just got started

that's a bit sucky. Maybe they hope things will pick up before then?

It's been a roller coaster.

I completed an internship with them this summer and was offered a place on the grad scheme. There were two places, one for me and one for the guy who deferred the year before.

Two months later they rang me and said "Oh, graduate recruitment cut it to one place" so I had to pick a backup. In the end they picked me and the other guy went to Leeds.

Now I've got this email stating the start date will be Jan 2010. My manager is trying to move it to August but there's a lot of red tape. I would have switched to Audit or maybe even companies to Deloitte but the tax business school in London is first class and they pay for our rent.

Just finished my first round of managerial papers with CIMA, passed both, BARELY!

One thing which tripped me up was the pure ease of the certificate papers (2 hours revision the night before, BAM, pass!).

You actually HAVE to revise like you're at Uni with the normal professional papers :(

What is annoying is e.g. P1 Management Accounting, going through a few past papers and a few good hours of revision is enough. But for P7 Tax and Reporting or something or other it took twice the amount of revision because there's so much information to learn!

As you can tell i'm not one to do my homework and am a fanboy of last minute revision!

:D

interesting, that's how I did C01 and C04, they were pretty easy tbh in comparison to how little work I did. P1 and P7 is my route for May sitting so it's good to hear that P1 is pretty straighforward.

Yep, there is a step up and you will have to revise! The best way I found for me is to just keep doing past exam papers (pretty much how I revise for anything!)

I'll be honest and say some people found it the other way around, couldnt get their head around P1 but sailed through P7.

Our section C question for P1 in november was about inventory management, seriously, a section A question but in C! I cant believe some people failed it!

Just thought I'd post an update. I passed C01 Fundamentals of management accounting today. I have economics next week to look forward to.

Tha paper today was pretty straighforward, mostly overheads and variance which I was well prepared for :)

Only 12 more to go :D

Building up the guts to stick my application through for CIMA now, been put off by a lot of people at work saying that it dominates your life

Good to hear from you guys that its not a complete ballache

P8, Financial Analysis, was the hardest managerial for me. Passed first time but it required the most learning as consolidation is a ball ache until it all snaps into place in your brain.

P4, Integrated Management, was in a way tricky as you're tempted to try and wing it, since it's such utter bull**** :).

It doesn't dominate your life, as long as you have a proper revision schedule and make sure that when you do revise, you actually sit there and work as opposed to browsing internet etc., as this way what you could have achieved in one hour quickly turns into three. E.g. get back from work, study for two hours, you've still got what - an hour for the gym, an hour for dinner, and an hour leisure whatever that may be ;).

...but you'll only be there from 18th Jan 2010 to 2nd April 2010. The rest will most likely happen at ICAS in Edinburgh - though they'll still pay your rent.

4 day week's going to be invoked for some shortly - I think Corporate Tax up-north are going to get hit quite hard.

Congratulations on passing your exam.

I passed my last ACCA exam (result was on Monday) so now qualified :)
It's a great feeling!

Nice one mate, one thing on economics, pretty much EVERYTHING relates to that stupid supply demand graph lol! So think of that!

Just got my books through for P2 and P8, will try and sit them at the same time as P4 and P5 (these 2 are done through bpp, classes/revision etc, P2 and P8 will be self taught!) I can only try lol!

Thought I'd give another update. I have passed all my CIMA CBA's so am through the certificate level and am currently studying for three exams in November, P1, P4 and P7.

All in all it has been pretty straightforward so far, but we'll see how Novemeber goes.

Heh - The studying is not so bad if you can do it with others. Made a big difference to me back in the day.
