CIMA...... Just got started

It's quicker if you go GCSEs/A-Levels -> AAT -> ACA/ACCA

Yeah I know, that was my option if I did not get into University. The university route would take longer but there are other benefits as well like independence. Also I really like the look of my course and has a module which offers some exemptions for the ACA.

I completed my AAT after I'd accepted my second role in IT (started when I worked in finance and decided to finish it).

Never really bothered taking it any further, I was leaning more toward ACCA rather than CIMA had I done so.

I started my CIMA many years ago, just did the first 4 of 5 computer based exams for the first level. Then i did not bother after that, i will complete the qualification but don't plan on becoming an accountant.

But i do vaguely remember that if you have an accounting degree from university they will exempt you from level I and II but dont quote me on this.

Our experts describe you as an appallingly dull fellow, unimaginative, timid, lacking in initiative, spineless, easily dominated, no sense of humour, tedious company and irrepressibly drab and awful. And whereas in most professions these would be considerable drawbacks, in chartered accountancy they are a positive boon.

edit - sorry couldn't resist the Monty Python quote.

Another update, have now sat P1 and P4 with P7 tomorrow. Both papers seemed quite straight forward s I'm hoping it will be the same again with P7. It'll be a relief to get them out of the way and chill a bit :D

Thanks, same to you with P7 (just hope there's no cash flow statement - I hate them!).

TOPCIMA seems easier than the strategics at the moment. The only ways in which it's harder is

- remembering loads of real life industry examples
- you have to right like an absolute mad man for three hours solid, and I'm literally in pain by the end!

Cash flows are easy, if you remember the pro forma! My friend didn't learn it for the last sitting and bombed the paper.

P4 today was a bit of a waffle and there were very few specifics in the paper which surprised me, not that I'm complaining :)

Robbie mate, cant you do the Typing one? I'm hoping to do that next year.

Good luck for P7 tomorrow, waffled through P8 (my weakest area) yesterday, not high hopes of passing that one. Did really well in P2 today though, just didnt have enough time to finish the very last part of the last question ARGH!

oh and on the subject of cash flow statements, i couldnt really do them at P7, and yesterday on P8 the consolidation question was to create a CFS! ARGGH ended up doing 2 interpretation questions!

Wow, at 20? How did you find somebody to put you through ACA without a degree?

My employer takes on some students straight out of college. We have two doing aca at the moment.

I should have to be honest, but there were a couple of downsides to that for me.

Firstly, you get a couple of months less time to revise and analyse the pre-seen. The PC-based ones are in September and March with the written ones in November and May, like all the other professional papers. The upside of this is that you're qualified sooner and if you fail you can do it again in November (if you enrolled in time).

The second reason that I didn't do in on the PC is that the nearest PC exam centre to me was miles away.

Typing would have saved a lot of hassle and wrist pain as I like many people can type much faster than I can write. Using Excel for the NPVs etc. ...god it would have been so easy. However in the end I also decided to stick to the method that has served me well so far!

If I fail, I'll take the PC one in March 2010.

Anyone else got their November results tonight?

PASSED! Yippeee!! All done now. No more exams possibly ever but certainly for the forseeable future. Time to get very, VERRY drunk. Work tomorrow though, should have booked the day off but got year reporting to do. God knows what BS figures I'll produce tomorrow!

Anyone else got their November results tonight?
