Cities: Skylines

Played last night for a while. It's so similar to Sim City, it's bordering on plagiarism - UI, overlays, systems are all similar. The same game, expanded, with systems that work, could be a good thing though, so I won't hold it against them just yet.

Having said that, the little touches of Maxis 'charm' are completely missing, the game feels very dry to me. This might be a good thing if you are looking for a more serious sim I suppose. But those little touches always added something comforting to Sim City - even if the core gameplay of the last one was substandard, it kept up that tradition.

I had trouble with the bus routes, they are all the same colour, which makes laying them out quite tricky (am I missing something here?).

I bet this game had a fraction of the budget the last sim city game had and it's pretty much perfect on release..... Does everything EA's incompetent console/smart phone devs said couldn't be done....

I like the radial design, with upgraded roads it is working so far. The centre circle was all industry and the start of the city, now I am gradually moving is out of town to the West and building a commerical disctrict at the centre for now.

Major road upgardes and tarffic solutions are needed soon, no to bad at the moment however. I'm just building up my bank balance for a while.

I can see that roundabout becoming a huge traffic stopper when your population increases, I did something similar and once I hit around 10k population the queue was backed up onto the highway outside the zone.

I havent really, not since many years ago when i had a mess about on a sim city game but other than that im new so will i be ok? i should be able to figure it out if it isnt too vague

I'll put it like this, I showed my 5 year old this morning (he's off school poorly) and he understood it.

I actually found making round abouts large 1 way systems helped alleviate traffic issues

Relief roads and upgraded streets will help that I think. The plan is to limited access to that area to cars only as I will be putting another highway connection in for the industry.

With a mix of 1-way roads and relief roads, coupled with a heavy goods ban down the middle, I think it will work.

The highway intersection up to the roundabout looks like something rude.
