Cities: Skylines

Well only had a couple of hours but first impressions are very good. Seems to have some nice ideas and is fair intuitive. Will be interesting to see how the underlying simulation holds up once people start to get really big cities as that was where Simcity 2013 all started to fall apart.

Completely in love with this, best City builder since sim city way back. So addictive, I just need to get away from building in grids. Visuals are so nice up close.

Question, has anyone got vsync working? Both my cards are flat out, getting upwards of 150 fps and hitting 68c, but only want 60fps so don't need to use them half as much as I am. .

Is this for the hardcore, or can anyone pick up and play?

I havent played many city sims so wondering if i will get eased into it well enough

Ta :)

One common comment during the livestreams was that it was too easy, the citizens dont really seem too fussy, it really isnt hard to make money etc. Theres a mod for making it harder too, as well as unlimited money, so its certainly accommodating for newcomers who fancy giving it a try.

Best tip i can give would be start slowly. Build a reasonably sized area, give them power, water & waste management, and a rubbish dump. I think thats everything a citizen needs to survive. You dont need emergency services right away (they're locked anyway, till you hit population targets) and just grow a bit at a time.
Dont start planning a huge city then run out of money building roads then realise you've got no water etc.

Hardcore, it definitely isnt, not as standard.

Do you use Afterburner? maybe use RivaTuner to limit the frames in the process. I have it at 60fps fine with that.

God dammit, it was like.. 6pm 5 minutes ago..

Haha same here, had to be reminded of the time or would have carried on playing oblivious to time, its certainly going to have a lot of gameplay :)

So far created a 15k population city, its slick and the graphics are good, impressed how well thought out it all seams, the grid does seem to be a little off when trying to do lines so some practice with this is needed, but being able to just expand and expand by buying tiles is really good.

Started a new city. Had nice roads and looked good so far.
2 hours in windows update came with no notification and restarted my PC... had not saved it yet.

I guess it has to happen once to learn :(

I am really struggling with traffic management. I started with a simple 1 way system that works great until you need to start putting in new zones. Think I will start again tonight and try and keep the Commercial, Industrial and Residential all separate.

Have to laugh at all the folks posting at 2 and 3 am... addicts lol.... It was 2am before I finished!

Have restarted about 20 times I cant decide on my road system and the one time i thought... thia will do.... my electricity pylon was just outside my residential area in error so they had no power, I then spirallef into debt without the option for a loan and then people were mad as they had no power and then they all left which made my debt spiral before I logged out for the morning!

After the excitement of getting this game. I fell ill pretty much after 30 mins of playing. Sore aching back, felt like a fuzzy head. Needless to say I went to bed very early. Had a crap nights sleep and still cannot concentrate. May have to not play until I feel better and can enjoy it more.

Sad times.

Played it a bit last night, even convinced a friend to get it.

I like it, its everything Sim City had and more, its pretty much what Sim City should have been. I saw you can also expand your plot when needed with additional squares which is a nice middle finger to Sim City :D

Sadly being on the early shift needing to get up at 5am and being on call, I resisted the temptation to play it all night, but I wanted to so bad as its so much fun.

That icon on the desktop teasing me while dialed into work to fix an email issue arggghh

I forced 60 FPS through Afterburner but was still hitting high temps on a 570 so I use Nvidia Inspector and locked it down to 30 FPS and I haven't noticed tbh but all controlled better now.

I don't know why but I always have this problem with Unity Engine games and yet I use the Unity Engine and never had any problems when using it as it has really good Vsynch control.
