Cities: Skylines

Really enjoying this so far, glad I purchased it.

The only thing annoying me was having to use WASD to move the camera around, then I remembered I could assign some spare buttons on my mouse to it! Much better

Haven't really got a big city yet (around 2,200 population), taking it slow to start with to learn what works and what doesn't.

Residential area nearest the camera with schools/parks in amongst it, then the main commercial areas through the middle and industrial over on the far side. Plenty of trees going in between the industrial and commercial to reduce the noise levels aswell.

Random question but do you need a decent PC to run this? Love sim games and my work ultrabook could run Sim city on lowish until the population grew then it would slow down.

Hoping this runs abit less resource heavy?

So is this any good?

I was really looking forward to the latest SimCity game. But I heard it was an absolute shambles - online only, too small, buggy, etc etc - so I never bought it.

I forgot all about it then the other day I was considering going off to find out whether they'd made it any good yet. Then totally by accident last night I watched a video about the game on birgipall's channel.

Looks like the game for me, worth a punt do you think? What's everyone's impressions of the game so far...a SimCity beater?

Never played the latest Sim City but it's way better than Cities XL, if you look around 99% of the reviews and user feedback are positive.
It's one of those games that warps time, an hour ticks by but you'd swear it was only 20 minutes.

I think Simcity 2013 looks a little nicer and the sound/music is better. I liked Simcity, until I got to the stage where you run out of space and you felt like your city was just starting to get where you wanted it to be. I tried to use trade with other cities, but I hated it, it never worked well and made what should be a fun unlimited sand-box experience, incredibly limited. There were other problems as well, but the lack of space was game-breaking for me.

Cities: Skylines on the other hand has no such restriction, all the space I could every want. I’m loving the game and I can only see it getting better and better with good mods and some TLC by the developers.

I have a question – When I start building on new area that I’m told has oil or ore, how do I know where it is? For example, in Simcity, it would state where the ore was and I’d have to build a mine on top of that area. I know there is not that level of trade in Skylines, I know no mines exist but do I need to worry about zoning an oil district in a specific location?

Press the natural resources button on the left to see what is available. You then zone industry over it. Create a region over the industry and set the region to the appropriate resource specilisation. Hey presto, oil pumps, Wells, ore mines, forestry and farming specialised industry builds.

Build your roundabouts out of highway sections. Then traffic free flows onto and off it without junctions.

You can also build entrances and edits onto highways wherever you like so you don't have to rely on just one access to your city like in sincity.

I'm sat at work not doing any work and all I can think about is my poor citizens trying to carve a life in the hell hole I created for them.

My first attempt is not going well I am at 3.5k population I have ran out of cash all my budgets are at 50% I have multiple building burning, rubbish piling up (and bodies) and the local thugs running riot.

I tried playing last night but I kept on getting interrupted with work and the wife. Role on Tuesday I will have sold my business and will have retired:)

Any idea why this game doesn't have 1280x1024 as a resolution option?

EVERY other game I have, even the most recent, supports 1280x1024 out of the box. It is a perfectly common resolution as a good number of people still used monitors of that size.

Needs to be fixed asap.

- edit - apart from the above it's a great game. 9/10 + and if you love city builders it's a must have.

some of you need to put the tilt slider all the way to the left and stop posting screenies with horrible depth of field blur.

looks like huggie86 found it :P

Does everyone get the weird film like shimmering ? almost like watching a VHS instead of a crystal clear image
