Cities: Skylines

^^ that said, im now wondering whether removing the cemeteries is a wise move. My city is covered in dead bodies, all the crematoriums vehicles are out (7/7) but i wonder perhaps they're best worked with a cemetery (10/10) and just unload them to crems on a regular basis, as the crems are barely working.

Fill the cem's, unload to crems. That probably the best route.

Thanks for the tips :)

Regarding tunnels, they are in Simcity 2013 but it took EA a while to implement them.

And yes, I loved Elite. Fantastic experience, until you realise that all you actually do is grind money for credits, so you can grind more money for more credits. With more content, it will be a great game. For now though, I reckon ill be busy building my perfect city for a few months at least. And these screen shots are making me realise how crappy my cities are, must be more creative!

Im so dumb... it took me hours to realise you can use the same pipes for both water and sewage...

please dont laugh.
:D

This ties with something i noticed a lot in various 'lets play' & preview type videos, they'd explain that for some reason you only need to put down 1 lot of pipes for both. Yet you can see you're actually laying 2 pipes. Theres an aqua one and a blue one, and the overlay explains sewage & water levels using the same colours. Nobody seemed to realise theres 2 pipes going down not 1.

It took me a good 5 minutes last night to work out how the road upgrade tool worked and why I couldn't upgrade the dirt roads I'd laid...

FYI, it upgrades (or downgrades) the roads to whatever type of road you have selected. Such a simple way of doing it, you wonder why other games only allowed certain types of road to be upgraded tothe same type, and no downgrades allowed :D

1-ways cant be swapped to 2-ways though, thats the only exception.

You can get away with it by pausing the game, destroying the road, and then placing the other road in its place, and then make sure you re-zone the 4-deep tiles cos they're empty otherwise, and the building will disappear shortly after unpausing. If you do this, the buildings stay, and you quite often get amusing cases where cars/lorries are travelling down a 2-way and you swap it for a 1-way and they realise and do a u-turn :D

Can't do it to 1 way streets though or reverse the direction which is annoying

Liking this so far.

Only thing I'm having trouble with is the education,
plopped down plenty of all three schools, roads are green for the coverage, yet so many red houses. Cannot figure out why. Also boosted it with the policy, nothing.

Anyone managed to get their offices to upgrade to skyscrapers yet? Got lots of parks and unique buildings in my downtown area, but all are stuck at level two. Not sure whether I need to be patient or I'm missing something!

No, im the same. Theres 9 shades for land value, and i seem to be at 8, the residential and commercial area on the other side of the highway is at 9, a proper lime green, whereas the offices arent. ive tried adding parks and a tier 5/'V' monument, and neither has had any impact. Ive also tried reduced office tax policy for the district.

Im gonna persist with it, but in all my high value areas they're always just short. I've just knocked down a highrise residential in the middle of my best district, 62m/m value, and replaced it with an office... nothing is growing there, which is rather odd.

So just started this, having a mess about first to learn whats what. My first hurdle was how to bring the main road from the motorway in to 1 to then branch onwards? I ended up just doing a 2 way road across the 2 prebuilt ones. Maybe a roundabout? Couldbt seem to figure out what would be best!

Also is there a grid button and an undo button or is that just bulldozer?

Thanks! Probably n00bie issues but getting there, will restart soon

Have you got a bus route or subway in there?

Thanks! I've placed incinerators, but as soon as I start emptying the landfills people start complaining about garbage. I guess its maybe because then they are busy emptying instead of collecting? Maybe more incinerators are needed.

This is the problem I'm having at the minute. Have 4 Incinerators and 6 Landfills and want to get rid of the landfills, but they have to be empty before I can delete them, as soon I start emptying them garbage starts piling up and the Incinerators dont seem to do anything. Seems like i'll be stuck with landfills for a while yet!

it's because they take the landfill to the incinerator which obviously stops them burning the new rubbish.

If you look each incinerator has space for 400,000 tons of rubbish or whatever the figure is, the more rubbish inside the more power you get from burning it.

Try to unload one landfill a a time but you'll need enough capacity to keep up with supply which in my current city of around 8000 I need roughly 4-5 incinerators.

the unload landfill tooltip says crematoriums can burn rubbish from landfills as well

Yeah, the first metro route i put down happens to be where i put my first office block, previously it was farming (its now half & half), and there's also a bus route at one end too.

The same can be said of the 1 office block i put right in the middle of my highest valued district. It eventually appeared, ranked up to 2.6-2.7, then dropped to 2. I've left it for a while as i went to do other things, and the building has swapped from a newspaper to a law firm, which is odd cos i dont see it struggling to survive (all jobs taken with appropriately skilled workers).

Ive gone full incinerator now, ive got 11 of them for a 50k population, and 3 more powered off (i went a little overkill!).

Its not foolproof, but open up the rubbish tab or rubbish infograph and it'll tell you how much rubbish is being produced per week, and what you can process. The reason its not foolproof is because thats only what they can destroy, you've still got to run it at optimum levels with vehicles collecting rubbish. I've got 329k produced, 528k capacity. I'd imagine you'd want to allow for 75% performance, so have 100k cap for 75k produced. It depends how far they have to cover how efficient they are i suppose.

If you want to use dumps and incinerators, try and make sure the 2 are together. This way when you want to empty a dump the vehicles dont have to travel far, so they can empty out pretty quickly, free up some space and let them get back to work again.
The same thing applies to dead bodies, except you get less vehicles with the crem than the cem (7 vs 10), while dumps & incin have 15 & 27.

Try and empty 1 dump/cem and if you start to see a build-up in the city then let them resume service.
