Cities: Skylines

I can't get past 3.5k pop I am broke and cant take anymore loans out.

Sounds like you are doing something wrong, are you placing water pipes/power lines efficiently? I just hit 8k population using no loans and have over 1m in the bank. Search on youtube for "Skye storme" his playthrough has some great tips for starting out and growing without running into financial problems.

This is the problem I'm having at the minute. Have 4 Incinerators and 6 Landfills and want to get rid of the landfills, but they have to be empty before I can delete them, as soon I start emptying them garbage starts piling up and the Incinerators dont seem to do anything. Seems like i'll be stuck with landfills for a while yet!

Same here. I just hit 8k I think I have 5 rubbish dumps almost all full but since I built my first incinerator the rubbish around the town isn't getting collected very well and I can't empty the dumps very quickly either! Also my roads are getting clogged with convoys of bin lorries. I think the balancing could do with adjusting here, or give the incinerator as the reward for the previous milestone. Getting worried about my water pollution too, I'm using a custom map on a large river mouth and there is very little current so the pollution is slowly working it's way back up the river where my pumps are

When I was saving I noticed an auto save entry in the list. I didn't take much notice and didn't see how often it updated, and I'd heard there was no auto save, buy maybe you'll be in Luck.

Seems it was 'quick save' rather than 'auto save', which I've just accidentally noticed is done using F1

Was just browsing the local files. Two pdfs in there with drawings and screenshots of some of the notable buildings in it.

I fancy making something art-deco in Blender, and importing it :).

What am I missing, my water drain pipe keeps saying not operating. I've connected it to the rest of the system and it's got it's own power source. What else does it need?

Are you sure it is the water system, and maybe not the sewer system?

Also, does anyone else have a problem using shadowplay to record in game?

Had a nightmare tonight, my traffic system was all sorts of messed up, think I had overkill on 1-way roads. Bulldozed it and started again.

Much better for traffic flow now. Got £1million in the bank and only 6k population.

Just lost a couple of hours playing this. Bloody good!

I've just been mucking around really though, just to get a feel for the game. Just chucking up roads and zoning to see what happens. Not a lot of forethought or planning.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to use the curved road too? I've been sticking to a pretty simple square grid pattern, but I'd love to experiment with a radial city design.

Having an absolute blast with this, game is so addictive!

Quick follow of a couple of vehicles around the bottom om my original test city...

Even if you don't have a 4k monitor still change the settings to 4k on youtube. Only thing is while following the height of the buildings suddenly change the camera view.

Got another couple of hours in now, only just starting to get the hang of the systems though. Traffic in particular needs a lot of forward planning as once it gets bad it seems to be very difficult to rescue it without major restructuring work!

I think the traffic management is epic especially how you have to think carefully because your services reach will also be affected.

although may be less on an issue once you start using HQ's

Here's mine after another restart
KzyRrYs.jpg

biggest traffic issue is them coming along the motorway off ramp lol

only 8k pop though just slammed down loads of high residential so should see how it goes next time I play
Multiple entry points seems key, I think there's only one way back on to the motorway and out on each side

Once there on the motorway then not my problem :P just gotta make them filter through properly

anyone offer some tips on getting a hydro dam to work properly?

struggling here cant get any power from them

If you don't have a large enough body of water behind it then it can't generate apparently.

As for traffic management, I find the alternative methods are essential. Buses, metro, paths for walkers and my favourite, the cargo trains. I had so much heavy traffic trying to exit the town through my main interchange, but the dedicated train station in the heart of the industrial sector sorted things.

Just as a tip if anyone is struggling with traffic flow from the motorway into the city, you can make a roundabout straight away using large one way roads and the curve tool. Really eases it up for real cheap.

I've finally got a city up and running that makes a profit. Used the Simcity 4 approach, start small and work up, people will get by without education, police etc.

I've been playing it since I got home, I should really go to bed

This is how I start too :), very easy. I also use roundabouts quite a lot using a one way system too.

I keep having to start over because my city doesn't look good :p

I wish the ground pollution was brown, or turned the ground into a grayish green or something. Then industrial areas would look like they should do, now I just have to place them way out the way since they look so horrible.
Will probably be a mod for that in the future (if there isn't already) but I want achievements first!

Spent 6 hours building a city. Honestly, turned out pretty well. Didn't do any straight roads, I prefer the London feel of weird roads. The only problem I'm finding tricky to solve is my industrial estate has a lack of workers. It's difficult to travel to the estate, didn't know there were timeframes for people to arrive to work.

Oh and my coal stations would stop. And can't find info about why...

I'm going for max efficiency first to attempt a max pop, looks boring but want to get it out of my system. Then I want to look into finding/making mods for british looking houses (terraced etc) to recreate some of the big british cities.
