City Fibre

Honestly, if you want something private, fast and trustworthy I'd be considering:

Mullvad
OVPN
AzireVPN
Njal.la (aka iPredator aka The Pirate Bay guys)
ProtonVPN
IVPN

and not much else. If you need media playback (eg iPlayer, Netflix) then a cheap/almost free NordVPN sub with virtually 100% cashback is on Quidco as often as not. I wouldn't put anything sensitive through it though, personally. They do work well with streaming sites, and they're fast though.
Thanks

If your going for a paid option, then yeah I'd definitely say Mullvad is probably the best, NordVPN is up there also.
You generally have to pay to maintain your privacy when it comes to VPN's, most of the free options generally have some level of monetization either by selling your data or showing ads etc.

It sounded like OP didn't want to pay for a VPN hence why I gave him an option where he wouldn't have to.
Of course, without doubt, I would always recommend paying for one as it's always going to be the best option if you care about your privacy.

Yeah, I did not see the point if I only need for one site but I'm having a look at all options I case I need it in the future.

Just use Opera if it's on Android, it has a free built-in VPN, probably your best bet.
If you do decide to go with a paid option, Mullvad is the best.

I'm hoping I'm posting in the right thread but what are people's setup like when the Fibre cable are coming into your house? Are they trailing the cable around the front of your house to get access to a suitable plug socket? I silly signed up thinking the internet will go through my ADSL line for some reason but I have it all setup neatly in my hallway where I've got some CAT5 around the rooms and into my loft where my NAS box is.

I want to see what people's setup with their cables from the outside and into their house? Is the fibre going through the wall where there's a power socket on the otherside?

I think that will vary by region as they use different contract companies, however mine were very good. I wanted my fibre to come in at the back of the house to an upstairs room and they were fine with that. I talked it through with them when they arrived so we were in agreement about where the cable would go, this included the external initial termination box that mounts on the outside of the house. they use a machine to 'cut' through the lawn an put the cable down with minimal scarring of the lawn, this ran the cable to the house, then they pinned it up the wall and into the outside box (which they put around the side of the house to keep it out of the way, then from their they ran the next cable from the box down the side of the house, up the wall at the back and through the wall into my office.

I had certainly been nervous about how accomodating they would be, but in my case I had nothing to worry about. There is a guide video on the City Fibre website somewhere that covers the install process and their illustrated example does show them having the cable come into an upstairs room, so it looks like that is a normal install practice for them.

Edit: The external box did not require any power to be provided by us, the only place we required to provide power was for the box that is installed on the wall on the inside of the house (as well as the actual router from the ISP)

Just got my Vodafone wifi boosters 1 normal 2 alexa ones but I cant seem to get them to work, nothing is showing on the app like it shows in the instruction's.

Does anyone know what im doing wrong and how I need to set them up ?
Can I use them with all broadband or just vodafone ?
Do I need to return them at the end of my contact or do you get to keep them?

Vodafone only also yes you need to return this used to be in the small print unless it has changed.

Any idea how to set them up ?

I would suggest starting from the beginning the hub then the boosters.

Don't have the service myself but did help a friend with his everything went as the video on utube showed with the only issue being he was getting some problems running the app on tablet so ended up switching to using it on his phone.

If you still have issues on the app use the help from xperts it could be something they need to handle on their end.

it seam Ill need to spend a little time messing with and speaking to vodafone, the issues it I need to follow the app but the booster option is not showing like the video.

Did you resolve the issues in the end?
Yes, thanks.

I had to do it via wifi, I was trying via cable which did not work (the broadband team told me it would:rolleyes:), I then tried via wifi but it had some issues, so I reset the router and tried again and it worked.

Have had Cityfibre in our area last few months altho no digging on our road yet. However a new green box has appeared at the bottom of our road so started checking voda ,zen site etc and sure enough prices are available for full fibre. No half price offers so checked giganet and they offer 500mb for £37 a month. Why the price difference ?
Can only think they are using existing ducts to run cables for the green box but digging would start once they need to get cable into your home not sure tho.

What price did you get for Vodafone's 500Mbps/900Mbps.
Checking my area right now, it shows up as £29/mo for 910Mbps, cheaper than what you mention for 500Mbps.
Vodafone prices change a lot, literally every week or two they seem to change, not sure if their prices are dependant on area or not, I don't believe so but I could be wrong.

There's not much digging when getting the cable into the home, as they usually use overhead cables now in most locations.
Most of the digging is done in the roads, getting the fibre to every street.

Got a reply from Giganet and it is indeed live.Think i will go with them as 500mb is far above the current 68mb i get now.
And it's only a 12 month contract compared to 24 with others.

Let me know how it goes, and what sort of latency you get once all is installed and running!
Curious as it may be something I may consider when my contract is over depending on pricing etc :)

Vodafone is generally cheaper than Giganet atm, and I have no idea how good their infostructure, latency etc is that's why I've always been hesitant to try them out till there's more info.
