City Fibre

Anyone got any contacts in Vodafone or Cityfibre they can pass me details on?

We had CF lay cables last year. I waited for months, watching the VF website like a hawk while it said "coming soon".

Then suddenly it changed to "not available in your area", but here's some broadband... now even that has changed and they're only offering a very slow speed.

I rang CF to ask who was now the supplier, they were clueless. I've rang VF, also clueless. I walked into the VF store, they told me to ring CS...

All the while I'm paying full whack for 500mbs to Virgin because I don't want to commit to a contract with this on the horizon.

Well didn't take long for vodafone to drop prices they are down to £45 from £58 for 900mb.
But the 500mb is now down to £35 which is lower than Giganet ,2 year contract tho.

Honestly, why would you still persevere with them?

What does the City Fibre site say? It should tell you who the suppliers are.

Mine went from coming soon on the CF website to not available the week before it properly went live. When it did go live, I got a letter offering the 900mbit pro package for £29.

I'm in the same boat. City Fibre put a line outside my house 14 - 15 months ago and I'm still not able to order it I'm also wanting the 900meg for £29. I packed in my Virgin media everything, but My partner wanted the TV so got a package with 200meg so I do at least still have broadband all be it wireless now and not Ethernet.
Can't believe how long they take to go live, you would think they would be wanting some of that investment back - in the time they have been taking BT have also upgraded to FTTP and it's already live.

ive got there box in my close its wired to it but they say it will be a month or two before i can connect

Took 2-3 months from when my street got laid to when I could order it, generally they will complete a certain amount of postcodes and make it go live all at once.
Keep an eye on https://bidb.uk/ it will give you some potential clues on how close the rollout is getting to you if you want to try and gauge it.

That's a handy site - they've been in our area for 18 months now, dug up our close 3+ times and we've got the little box outside the house on the footpath but no idea when I'll be able to order.

Our VM contract is up next month & I really don't want to renew for another 18 months.

Your contract will roll monthly if you don't do anything with it then you can cancel whenever.

Yeah, I checked the prices last night on our contract; going up to £149 P/M which is a big ask with no firm date for a "go live" on CF's services...

Yeah, the only bugbear is you revert to full price. I'm in this boat atm and refusing to renew because OR are on the way.
Bingo - I might end up looking for a cheap-ish 5G SIM and use a spare router from work for now.

City Fibre seem to be digging up the roads fairly local to me and seem to be getting closer and closer... What am i looking for? Them reaching the closest green box in the street? (Being in IT i understand even then that doesn't necessarily mean it will be available any time soon... lol)

They put a new smaller green box in our street and full fibre was then available.Get mine fitted on the 25th.I just kept checking voda broadband for speeds available to me.Then checked other networks to find the best price.

You're waiting for a little plastic cover to appear on the boundary, and then it could be a few weeks until ISPs are taking orders for it

Nice, thanks guys. I'm already with Vodafone too so that could be useful. :)

Not always.

It tends to be older areas which require that to be placed on the paths the same as VM did.

My area has these for current BT line this is the duct the cable runs through I watched one of my neighbors installs

Good news for me is that my address is planned again, it was a database error.

The bad news is the workers seem to have left the city. The areas with streets dug up have been left like that for many weeks, in one street now months, and no new areas activated for the past 8 months. I suspect they have moved to another city, as the cityfibre contract with the city has a massive 5 year deadline, and they have done about 35%, so probably have a little bit of time to stop and come back later.

None of the streets with works for around a year also got the "we building in your area" on the checker, just stayed as planned.
