City Fibre

Why you choose to switch?
Virgin media is £28 a month for 250meg x 25meg. vodaphone is £30 for 900meg x 900meg and is full fibre instead of hybrid fibre that Virgin media use. I know Vodaphone don't have the best customer service record, but Virgin media are the worst I've come across.
So it was a bit of a no brainer really, although my mrs is still in contract with virgin for a few more months, but it won't hurt having two internet connections for a while and to make sure the Vodaphone get up and running properly.

For me, I went from Vermin Media Gig1 (with it's paltry 50mbit upload) to Giganet 1000/1000 on Cityfibre partly for the upload, partly for the faaar better level of service. I'm getting 3ms pings and waaaay less jitter. It's a completely different class, and Vermin Media can burn if you have Cityfibre availiable.
Been reading that some ppl on City fibre with Vodaphone have recently had their latency / ping times triple due to routing issues. Being locked onto a 2 year contract bothers me if this happens.
Would you say Giganet is considerably better than Vodaphone for gaming? Tempted to cancel Voda as and go with them instead.

In a bit of a situation.

Cityfibre went live for orders back at the beginning of October (1st), and I went with Giganet.

I've still not received an install date and their website now says pre order soon.

However, if I go with another supplier, they'll install it in 1 week. Giganet are the only one who won't install it yet.

I called Giganet and they've said they can't confirm when they'll be going live.

I'm keen to go with Giganet as they'll offer me 3 months free, a decent WiFi 6 router and no contract.

I've found another supplied who will do 3 months and no contract at the same price, but the router is an extra £70.

Any thoughts/ideas?

I just rang giganet also can't get them yet either, same answer no date even though listed bt City fibre as ready to go on my network. What company will do 3 months out of interest.
The vodaphone install I've got coming Monday might be great, but might not. We still have virgin as well so it's no big deal of I need to cancel Vodaphone and wait for giganet. Latency is most important to me, the main reason for switching as well as the faster upload.

CityFibre have a local access and a national access product. Local access works like Openreach GEA products - they deliver a customer connection to a point in a handover exchange. There is also a national access product to get this connection back to a datacentre where someone like e.g. Zen might already have presence - but it costs a lot more than local access. The most cost effective option when you're trying to retail gigabit for under £40 is to use the local access, but work is needed to connect to the fibre exchanges. This explains why not every ISP is available at every CityFibre location.

Only on the 24 month contract, but no price rise and if you move house to somewhere without city fibre you can break contract (I confirmed this on the phone with them).

let me know how you get on with them, I looked at them after reading your post here as the 1 month contract would suit me right now till Giganet were ready, thought it might be a good idea to do the same myself, then saw their trust pilot ratings and decided to give it a miss. I will just have to wait till Giganet get their asses in gear. They have told me that the date has slipped - pre order isn't even possible yet so doubt it will even be this year.

Are you saying you gave Giganet a miss due to TrustPilot? Or No One? :)

no one I gave a miss due to trust pilot - so many negative reviews of no routers turning up and then blocking you to be able to join another ISP. I'm waiting for Gianet they have pretty much great reviews, so that's who I want to go with, just they are slower than other ISP's on the uptake of being able to order anything up. It says pre order soon, probably the same situation you're in the next County Sussex. I did email them and they said there has been some delay and it will probably be December - new year time. I wouldn't mind going with another ISP for a couple of months if they didn't have such a bad reputation.

I didn’t notice that on TrustPilot - they have better ratings than Giganet:

I do apologise it's Yayzi that I was looking at that offer 1 month contract. Trust pilot shows them as awful though. The no one isp you're looking at looks pretty good but 12 month contract. If you go with them please let me know how latency is
