City Fibre

I had sky fibre whilst I was waiting. Zen were awesome throughout the whole process. I was always kept up to date and they always updated me when they said they would.

I was out of contact with sky so was paying a bit more each month but it was nowhere near £667.

sounds like an alright experience nothing compared to the horror stories coming from Vodafone customers.

Anyone had Vodafone just silently cancel their CF FTTP install and then just ask you to reoder when you phone to ask why nobody showed up? This has happened more than once to me now! I'm just gonna go back to Virgin as this is ridiculous.

Or use someone other than Vodafone?

That's a shame as I'm sure VF are playing games and avoiding having to pay the OFCOM automatic compensation. I'd be lodging a complaint and then taking it to OFCOM if necessary.

Any new experiences from anyone?

Here is one from a friend who lives in my town.

He had been stuck on internet which is unstable and tops out at 26Mbs with FTTP now available he though it would be worth the switch only provider available Voda who was offering deals price wise close to his current deal.

Signed up managed to get a good price £36 for 900 package with unlimited phone calls also Apple 4k device.

Date set for install 15min before the end of the time slot given receives a text can't install today with a few days past Voda unable to give new date but the agents said we will send you one 8 days later he received an email with new date.

Installation done and internet running but the speeds at evening times are having a big drops.

The other issue is his phone number has not been ported with Voda claiming need to wait 5 days it's been over that still not done. (keep fobbing him off) as of today phone number has still not been ported.

I have not seen any mention in here about this but Voda add CPI to your non discounted rate the original price this means a big increase each year.

City Fibre are finally done and dusted here and upon logging on to their site i get the option of TalkTalk and vfast. I'll probably go for the TT 900up 100down package for £36 a month for 2 years. I'm currently with Vodafone and was expecting them to have something similar as they linked up with City Fibre but all they can give me is 200. :/

vfast is 1000/1000 but my wife wasn't keen on 45 a month... :D (Compared to TT's 36.) Not sure i'd actually use or need that high upload anyway.
Having 940 for awhile now, I think I would make no difference to me having 500 tbh.
Unless you're constantly downloading 20GB+ files all the time, the difference is really negligible (but will likely still stick to it for the speedtest results :D )

Did you have a look at https://www.giganet.uk/ , I've heard good things about them.
It's £40/mo for 900Mbps, but you get 3 months free (12mo contract), so works out at £30/mo.
If you wanted to try it for 1 month first, it's just £40, no activation fee apparently, that's really good.

CF confirmed today they are doing a 'overhead Aerial SN'

As I'm in a mid terrace this means they are installing from the back alley pole into the rear of the property (1st floor) which in my eyes is totally pointless, who wants an install in the rear bedroom.

Fortunately grain are doing a build in December and have confirmed they are doing a front of house install similar to what we have with virgin currently.

Mine is in a middle floor bedroom. Right next to one of my network switches. I have an Ubiquiti network so don't use the wi-fi on the router. This suites me as I don't have to have the router in the living room.

Trying to extract data from the ONT, as I'm looking to change it out for an SFP GPON module.

There is a jtag header on the board, unpopulated, I can get a console and get to U-Boot but kind of stuck.

Full boot has a login/password I can't get around.

This is perhaps beyond my skills :D

Why you choose to switch?

For me, I went from Vermin Media Gig1 (with it's paltry 50mbit upload) to Giganet 1000/1000 on Cityfibre partly for the upload, partly for the faaar better level of service. I'm getting 3ms pings and waaaay less jitter. It's a completely different class, and Vermin Media can burn if you have Cityfibre availiable.
