City Fibre

no one offer this for £50 as part of the process. Anyone know how it differs to what is supplied as default?

Upgrade your router to our powerful Wi-Fi6 router and enjoy the benefits of WiFi6 with faster throughput and better performance in dense multi-user environments. Combine this with our Eagle Wi-Fi Extender (you may need more than one Extender) and you will definitely be better connected!

Had CityFibre installed a couple of weeks ago here. Had to go with TalkTalk as they were the only provider for my postcode, but I didn't use their supplied Eero router, but shelled out for an Asus GT-AX11000 instead. Get 908 down/902 up,(on average but d/s can drop to around 700Mbit at times which I believe is them throttling me for 'extremely abnormal high usage' as SKY put it when I was with them beforehand    ) so more than happy with the speeds. Costing me £5 per month more than I was paying for 74/16 from SKY beforehand though so anything faster than 150Mbit would be worth paying £5 extra for - Just hope no-one from TalkTalk sees this now!!!

Just dreading having to deal with TalkTalk if discover any issues coming into the property as I know how useless they can be!

Just waiting for my £50 Amazon gift card to come through now from CityFibre for signing up with the code in June.

Believe it has a 4x4 radio instead of 3x3.

Better maximum throughput over WiFi with compatible devices, and better performance across more simultaneous devices too.

Thanks. They've removed that option now and seem to offer it as standard as part of signup.

there doing the street work looks like i have these to choose from

Major ISPs which utilise CityFibre

Zen TalkTalk Vodafone Giganet Yayzi what do you reckon zen or giganet ?

See if you can get it with No One (https://no one.co.uk/).
Can second this.

Been impressed with No One so far. They answered my pre customer queries very promptly. I've now signed up and today cityfibre rolled in randomly wondering if I'm in to sort out the street connectivity to my house so as to avoid any problems at installation.

I've had no one and now on Giganet on the Cityfibre network.

no one's customer service is just great, you just wont beat it,but how often do you need it?? speeds seemed throttled on steam - epic games launcher were slow and definitely on torrrents and speeds even on speed tests sites like www.speedtest.net were also lower, normally between 600meg and 800meg, latency for gaming was fine around 7ms

Giganets customer support is very hit and miss, only had to use that though during installation and since then the lines been rock solid, always over 900meg and never throttled same latency 7ms.

So for me personally I would choose Giganet, but if customer support is a big factor for you then go with no one.

May find that some of those may not be available to you at launch in your area. My area went live in October last year, but there was no ISP's available until June this year & even then Talk Talk were (& still are) the ONLY one offering connections to CityFibre for my postcode (the installers used the BT telegraph poles to run the connection as no ducting to property). Prior to the network going live in the area, I was told the same choice as you of what ISP's would be available when live. Have to admit had connection for a couple of weeks now & not had any issues.

Current speed at time of posting;

2.5Gbps XGS-PON coming across CityFibre network in 2023

CityFibre is expecting to have XGS-PON available to 90% of its exchanges by the end of the year but also plans to increase speed options for those on their traditional PON network with an option for 2Gbps downstream, 1Gbps upstream.

Yayzi is selling the 2.5Gbps in Preston for £45/month, so this should give an idea for those curious about pricing.

Looks like I will be upgrading the NIC's & switches in my home network to at least 2.5Gbe sooner rather than later!

Here's to hoping 10Gbe equipment comes down in price before then *fingers & toes firmly crossed*

Those on Giganet, did you stick with the supplied eero router or use your own? Thinking of signing up to a short-term monthly contract with them and wondering how the eero performs...

Things like the Eero are geared towards maximum Wi-Fi performance and not exposing features that the average customer is going to fiddle with and break their connection. If that's all you need from a device then it will suit you fine. Nobody is bundling something on the level of a pfSense appliance and I wouldn't pick one provider over the other based on the bundled router, because none of the bundled ones meet my feature requirements. Maybe Zen come closest with the Fritzbox.
