City Fibre

Yup, did exactly that last week when I realised that I would face issues with my 1gig network

Bought
1 x Sodola 9 port (8x2.5gbe, 1x10g SFP+) = £67.50
2 x ugreen 2.5gbe usb adapters = £18 each

Total £107.50

Outcome

Added the usb adapters to proxmox, linux bond LACP the nics for an amazing 5gbps which I benchmarked and got 4.7gbps out of it !
Truly gob smacked by the performance

ps you can buy the wavenet usb 5gbps but they need 3.2gen2 ports which I only have one of so passed. If you have the ports then bonding a pair of them would yield 10gbps

Thanks will look into this. Thank you @RSR that would be helpful.

Just had a chance to go back over my old cases

If you are seeing drops on PPPoE interface when it's saturated, there is an issue with flow control where it can drop the connection. This applies to the 2.5Gb interface for some reason but the SFP+ one seems to not be affected from my notes.

Command: ethtool -A ethX rx off tx off

You can use the ifconfig to find the correct interface but on a UDM-SE / PM it's likely to be eth8. That change isn't persistent though, so it will need to be applied on every reboot.

The other item to check and the test is the number of networks the IDS/IDP that have been configured, as I ran into the issue where the "support file reported elevated CPU usage for the Suspicious Activity service" as I had all my VLANs listed, so I reduced this down to 3 and this also helped with my PPPoE.

UniFi Network application settings > Security > Protection > Selected Networks.

Let me know if any of that is helpful.

Speed test before 1450 peak sustained around 1340, After that command saw it hitting 1776 for a few seconds sustained around 1590 so decent improvement. Nice bud thanks. These are on the inbuilt speedtest.

If moving FTTC to FTTP, what happens to the old FTTC line and mastersocket inside? Is it removed at time of FTTP installation? It's City Fibre in my area only at the moment, so would they remove the old BTOpenReach stuff?
A transfer is not working for me (One Touch Switch or whatever it's called) so will probably have to cancel the old broadband separately, and there might be a little overlap where the old FTTC line is active, as need to give 4 weeks noticed to cancel the old broadband.

Still to make the final decision which company to switch to but probably IDnet.

They're finally installing in my estate, roll on the day I can actually get a decent connection! Though I am slightly concerned that my little cul-de-sac will be ignored due to the block paving everywhere making it too much hassle for them to get cables to the property...

Don't hold your breath, Cityfibre installed on my estate, digging up pavements and installing green cabinets over 2 years ago. It has still not gone 'live' to this date.

Fingers crossed your case is different!

That's not ideal at all :(
Nope, luckily Openreach and Fibre Heroes (BeFibre etc) are available. I watched all sets of companies install and lay fibre. It's a very odd situation regarding Cityfibre.

Edit - just done some digging and it seems the Cityfibre contractor (Kier) exited the contract, I guess in their current situation Cityfibre can't afford to resume works.

So hopefully, your rollout will be OK /thumbsup

I live in hope, been stuck with 20Mbps Down / 4Mbps Up since I moved a little over three years ago, was a bit of a shock having had virgin media beforehand and I still cannot grasp the fact that an estate which is only just over a decade old didn't have fibre installed from day one.

Any of you have any experience good or bad with Octoplus? I've just cancelled VM and I see that Octoplus are offering 900Mbps for £27 & I'm tempted to switch to them.

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my new Unifi Dream Router 7 (UDR7) to work.
I managed to get it to connect to the internet (speeds appear to be similar to my TPLink AX1500 router) by entering my username, password and VLAN tagging ID 911

However, I noticed connectivity issues with the following applications (that I know off so far) - across various clients:
- Teams & Zoom calls not working or dropping off
- Nest Cams live feeds not visible in Google Home app or web app (however, the cams record and I can watch the recordings).
- Instagram and Youtube videos loading unreliably
- My Surfshark VPN app isn't working and doesn't connect on any device

Interestingly, the UDR7 also gave me a packet loss warning at some point. I am unsure if this issue could be related to some setting or bug in the UDR7's software.

My ISP is Aquiss - via Cityfibre.

I was wondering if there are any people on here who had similar issues with Unifi equipment before?

Many thanks!

I'm with Octaplus have been for two years. their support is very hit and miss. but its City Fibre so no real issues. They have had some shocking issues in the first year, but they have been stable for 1 good year now. They don't have IPv6 yet ( but its coming soon i was told), they do static IP's for a small fee.

I was going to move to another CityFibre supplier, but the £27 offer made me stay with them, as for that price its a no brainer.

Nothing happens.

Master socket stays that is Openreach.

If you are going with City Fibre they will install a new line so you will have new cable coming in.

Openreach network is different it's fine to have a service on each.

My parents have landline on Openreach and internet via City Fibre they did this because of issues to do with number porting so didn't want to risk losing a number they had for 40 years.

You do not need landline with FTTP.

I would probably start by looking at who is available on CF in your area, as not all ISP's are available in all areas, price should ideally be the last consideration. In my case I wanted a decent network, DHCP rather than PPPoE, a dedicated IPV4 rather than CGNAT, and a company with a proven track record with a fair price. Unfortunately, I had to compromise in some areas and last year I was at the point of jumping ship as the service had become farcical, worst of all they were making the same mistakes they had claimed to have learnt from only mere months earlier as well as clearly demonstrating they lacked the depth of knowledge and experience required. I won't recommend them, but in fairness, since the last migration, it has been at least 3 months since I had to mention them within the household, if the remaining two years are like this, I can forgive the cluster duck of stupidity that was the back end of last year, if not it'll be Aquiss or iDNET next, though the latter is in effect running on Zen's network, and i've not had much reason to sing Zen's praises in recent years.

I assumed that'd likely be the case but kind of hoped CityFibre might have been able to remove the old cable & socket under licence for BT if the customer wishes, when someone upgrades to full fibre. Would have been nice to avoid another hole being drilled and cable running around the side of the house as mine is via telegraph poles.
Few more days to go thankfully as my dodgy VF issues with performance haven't improved.

If you explicitly ask them to re-use the Openreach hole then they often will, they just aren't supposed to touch the Openreach network. They can't remove an old phone line going across to a pole though.

In case people with similar issues see this -

TWO TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS UNTIL UNIFI FIXES THE FIRMWARE
- USE THE SFP PORT FOR WAN
- CONTINUE USING THE RJ45 WAN PORT - AND ENABLE SMART QUEUES IN THE INTERNET SETTINGS
