City Fibre

I assumed that'd likely be the case but kind of hoped CityFibre might have been able to remove the old cable & socket under licence for BT if the customer wishes, when someone upgrades to full fibre. Would have been nice to avoid another hole being drilled and cable running around the side of the house as mine is via telegraph poles.
Few more days to go thankfully as my dodgy VF issues with performance haven't improved.

Only Openreach are allowed to touch the lines it's there property.

Having the two separate networks I find is better in case people have issues it means can have a fall back you know works. (It used to be recommended to keep the openreach active until you know the cityfibre is fully working)

I understand you not wanting another hole or cable run but hole wise it's not even seen the outside and inside.

Is everything fed from telegraph poles even VM in your area?

The good thing is you can choose the location for install.

VM legally can't provide service via pole anywhere in the UK, it's a condition of the licence issued, they also can't legally bring service in from the 'rear' of the property, though the side is usually acceptable (depending on the original franchise area when the licence was issued).

An area near my parents almost all VM is fed from the rear with some being the side that area was built in 70's

It was a cable/wireless and then NTL (NTL didnt use cable&wireless ducts they run own which VM now use)

Good info to learn thanks for it didn't know vm could not use poles would this still be valid for them now moving to real fibre?

VM moving to real fibre this still apply? If so it's disadvantage for them and will force them to have to pay to use another network for the coverage.

The licences contain all sorts of random stuff, and it does vary slightly based on the original franchise area, but broadly they all say the same things. For example, they can't supply service to a static caravan, even if it's the residence on the property, it has to be listed with Royal Mail as a residential property, BT were a lot more flexible back in the day. They can't use poles to run cables, it's all got to be ducted and as stated it's got to be from the front/side of the property, so for example if the street over from you has service, they couldn't run via the back garden that backed onto yours and into your property. I can think of locations in the North East where the 'front' of the house is technically not used that way, but in most of those they run down the central pavement and then down the path, but i'm not aware and have never seen in any franchise service provided via poles.

All via poles I think. VM is available but haven't seen anything new so assuming that's via pole too. A new CityFibre pole was fitted on pavement outside my property a year or so ago, at end of wall between my house and my neighbour's house, so not far to run the new cable to connect to the junction box on the post.
All fitted now. BTopenworld stuff still in place. They said to call BTOpenworld if want to have it removed but I only really wanted that if it'd save more drilling so will leave it in place now.
Only went with a 160/160 line as that's all I need. Using an old Netgear D7000 getting 151-155 down and 152 up on a a 160/160 line so happy with that.
Shame the outside unit is a brown colour (house is rendered and white) but at least it's on the side of the house so not really visible from the front.

Looks like another nationwide outage overnight knocked offline / huge latency for loads of ISP's. Guess the CF backbone isn't all that resilience!

Just had a look at my router logs, no downtime/increased latency reported... at this rate, I may have to be slightly nicer to Yayzi, as it's at least 2 months since they broke anything significant.

First CF outage for me, they have been really stable. It was the midlands and east anglia affected primarily.

Ever since this MSO the other week I have been plagued with issues. My tv/ipads kept buffering and stopping completely. My phone was still working fine. Rebooted eero router, all working fine but then my phone would stop and one of the ipads would work and other not work. My WiFi speeds usually around 300mb up/down but latelt its going from 10 to 70 to 180 and anywhere in between.

What's even more weirder is my phone apps, for some reason, several apps like tesco bank, sumup pay and a few others are implying I have a new device and need to re-register. I checked and there was no android updates done, but it all started happening around the same time as this MSO. Coincidence or a cause??

Anyway, I logged a ticket to Cuckoo back on the day of the MSO, presumably they ignored that one knowing it was the MSO but I've logged another since but no acknowledgement email, nothing on the account saying there is a call logged. All I got was a thanks for submitting a ticket. Support seems to be non-existent since they took over from Giganet.

Since the ISPreview story on the slow progression of XGSPON upgrade rollout, CityFibre have massively ramped up its pace and now its set to be done by mid 2025.

If you are with Cuckoo run they are a total farce. So glad to be shot of them since they taken over from Giganet who also sucked as support but Cuckoo make them look competent.
