Civilization V

Ohh, interesting thanks for that.

I've been trying to win a culture victory on the game I described up above. Even though my tourism is vastly superior and anyone who is on a different ideology to me citizens unhappy about it I'm still nowhere near winning. Since everyone denounced and declared war on my all of a sudden I've just started wiping them out instead. Then I can win culturally against my 1 remaining buddy.
Probably just as well as Sejong was way ahead of me tech wise and had completed the Manhattan project long before me and was probably about to start nuking me. Now he is mine :D

If anyone is way way ahead of you on Culture and you want a Culture victory, convert everyone else then genocide them.

I do love playing long games over several days or weeks. My last game I tried for a non conquest victory. Being nice to everyone. Then i start getting denounced by all the people on the same landmass im on.

Suddenly my foreign policy is changed from try to be nice, to annex all the things.
They can't talk bad about me if they don't exist.

Has anybody won a proper game at 'Deity' difficulty yet? By proper, I mean settings that aren't cooked to make it really easy...

I am attempting my first Deity game right now after getting pretty comfortable on Immortal.

I expect to get crushed. :(

Anyone got suggestions for speeding up multiplayer?

Doing a game at the moment, 3 of us on a team, vs 7 AI players, assorted into teams, but it's slow as hell. Are there any options we can change to speed things up, after we all click next turn, it can take up to a minute for anything to happen.

So, I bought Civ5 ages ago and have barely played it. Didn't really live up to the other games if I'm honest.

Started playing again this week and got really involved - and I'm glad to say that on Thursday night I started getting that "just one more turn" feeling, so hopefully I'm hooked again.

Just seen the new expansion - worth getting? There are some things that irritate me about Civ5 (like the AI that's scared of water) and I wouldn't mind trying some new concepts.

Also, does anyone know where I might get Gods&Kings cheaply? It's still £19.99 on Steam!

That's fine by me. I might get hold of it soon then try and find Gods and Kings somewhere on the cheap.

There are still some things that really annoy me in Civ5. Like unit selection; I'll click a unit at the start of a turn, start giving it orders and suddenly the game auto selects a different unit. Frustrating.

Also, clicking "Next Turn" never really goes to the next turn - first it makes you go through all the outstanding production and unit orders. I don't want to HAVE to cycle through all my units and press Space - just let me end the turn and not give them any orders!

But like I said, I lost most of my evening on Thursday - before I knew it, it was 1.30AM, so it the game must be doing something right.

EDIT: Just found a site selling both expansions cheaper than steam - £23 for both of them.

G&K came before BNW so would recommend in that order.

Also your comments are true but believe it or not, its to your benefit that the game lets you select units, each move in the game does really count. And if you don't want to use a unit for awhile put it o fortify.
