Civilization V

Not sure as I thought D2D were not going to be stocking games that have Steamworks in them.

EDIT: According to the specs for it on the site it comes with Steam so I guess you can just use the serial key to add it to Steam.

I wonder when D2D stopped their boycott then.

Again it's not Steam its the publishers/developers who set the prices with them sometimes making suggestions to independent developers.

Couple of quotes from developers to back this up.

The developers give all retailers a set price and the retailer work in those margins, steam always work at the top end of that margin, with the lowest overheads, ..in other words they make more money per game even if the sold it at the same price.

If I buy the disc version of this, will I need to download anything from Steam to play it? Or will it simply add itself to my Steam list, without requiring any further downloads?

I'm in Mumbai at the moment, and do have a web connection, but get charged by the megabyte so don't really want to be downloading big fat Steam files :(

it will just add itself to your steam account when you install it, it will activate your steam for serial number

Ok.. Which version to buy?

I see the standard version for £22.98...

Do I purchase that and hope the DLC in the deluxe edition costs no more than £17?

Or do I just purchase the Digital deluxe edition from Direct2Drive?

Does anyone think the same DLC will cost £17?

Well that all depends on whether the babylonian civ plus one or two extra maps will be worth the extra.

There will be more then enough community made maps within a few months and I definitely don't plan on paying for extra civs. I never bought any expansions for the previous civs, I just enjoy the vanilla versions perfectly fine :)

Digital deluxe from D2D comes with bablyon plus the first premium DLC with two new civs once its released for free. If getting the downloadversion, definately get that one over the steam offer, as the pre order maps as useless.

Im a direct download newb and didnt realise that D2D were also offering the digital deluxe :(

It will probably be £5 for the DLC, Babylon is exclusive to the digital deluxe and is not confirmed for a seperate release, plus you get the sound track.

I think that even the standard version from D2D includes the premium DLC for free, so go with that one if you arent bothered about Babylon or the Soundtrack.

When they wanted to sell COD:MW2...

Money talks eh....

At the end of the day, they can still make money from it.

Their original reasoning was they didnt want to be pushing their customers to a competitor.

With Steamworks becoming more widely adopted, it made sense they eased up a little.

Stardock still take the same stance with Impulse as do Gamersgate, more fools them really in my opinion.

Not talking about the largest elephant in the room does not mean it is not there or nobody else can see it.
