Civilization V

Hoping someone here can help, whenever I try and load a large map I Crash to the desktop?is anyone else experiencing this?

my specs are:

GTX 260
Q9330 QUAD CORE @2.50GHZ
4 gigs ram

Just finished my 1st game and really im completely gutted.

The games been dumbed down far too much
I have graphic corruption on the giant killer robot haha!
changes for the better are outnumbered by dumbing down
Move to orders are just broken half my stuff never gets there. especially shipping
I despise the way all units are now able to cross water - yet to see an enemy try it though.

I will play it again to win on a space race, culture or UN win or at least try to.

hope there are some patches soon.

tend to agree, its like a console game. :(

While IRL i don't care about religion, i understand its great importance for creating the world we live in today (war, peace, trade etc) and without that there's nothing really to go for other than war warmongering.

Used to be great rushing to get a few religion, then spreading it to get more gold (and allies), now there's nothing?

I was under the impression you did exactly the same thing using policies...

I don't know what people were talking about not seeing enemies embark. Playing on King difficulty (I know I'm taking it easy for my first few games) the arabs decided to attack me because they didn't like me wiping out the persians. All of a sudden a swarm of them come across this 6 tile wide land bridge between our two continents, I send all my army up to take them on but what's this! Another swarm of their units hit the south of my continent from the water.

Not to say that it did them any good, I just wish I'd thought to build a naval combat vessel to have some fun with them. I should have taken screenshots, it might be the only time I see it happen apparently!

Specific religions are one of the very few things I actually miss from past civs, not too bothered though, it will be modded in and I am still enjoying the game anyway.

I dont. I hated being killed by Isabella just because I chose to be a budhist while she was a Jew :(

Makes sense to me, history is littered with wars because of religion. Though if it was me I'd build an atheist army and destroy both of them just because they are Buddhist and jew :)

I had the AI also embark across a small bit of water. Except they didn't defend their boats and my destroyers were able to take most of them out.

Is anybody else having a problem with the AI in your borders after the 30 turn agreement has run out. The diplomacy screen says it's still active but it won't cancel itself after the time limit. :(

Also does seem more dumbed down compared to previous civs. :(

There are a few bugs with regards treaties and being able to cancel them, or in my case, the never-ending peace treaty which effectively meant I couldn't finish my game. To their credit, 2K do seem to be paying attention on their forums and are responding to bugs like these.

I am finding this easier than the previous Civs. Never really played above Chieftain before, but I just stopped my Japanese game on the third level cos it was too easy to take out my enemies. I had 500g per turn, superior forces and there was nothing anyone could do. I firmly believe it's due to less micro-management, which I'm crap at :D

Despite worldwide feedbacks saying that Civ 5 is less enjoyable than Civ 4, but I just LUVE this game. Reason is simply that I keep on winning in fighting enemies!!:D Who wants to play a game who keeps on losing, Sid Miere has got it right this time.

Its very marmite I think in the Civ 4/Civ 5 debate. On the official forums theres a poll asking which is better and when I last looked at it 47% of people said Civ 4 was better, 47% of people said Civ 5 was better and the rest said they were about the same. So its almost a 50/50 split.

I'm enjoying it , as I have all Civ games.

Do agree with the difficulty thing though, the absolute minimum to play on to get a good game imo is Emperor. Anything Emperor and above I enjoy.

EDIT : Just checked the poll again and its now 46%-45% in favour of Civ 5 (with the "they're the same" rising), but still essentially split down the middle.

Tbh its mostly just a knee jerk reaction. There will always be people (like Biohazard) who don't like the things they removed but i'd think they'd be a minority. I suspect most is just because the AI isn't up to scratch and there are a few glitches atm. Once the modders get going... is it possible to create a Civ 4 mod for Civ 5? :p Civ 5 combat with things like religion and faster build time.

I was playing on Noble. And I selected DX9 becoz the other option is greyed-out?!

Why I like it apart from the above reason I said? Is it because it's simpler? I've noticed that my worker and army moves independent of roads, there aren't road built even.

And the combat, the sound effects help a bit and it's very very different from IV.

I don't know precisely, but the overall feel is very good. I bought IV a long time ago and just started playing it seriously in since August 1. Frankly, I am not even a newbie level because every time I played IV, I feel like I lost, I didn't know what I did that for, what I researched that for, I followed the hints from the game like research the recommended research, built on the recommended tiles...

V, I seem to know what I'm doing. 1st game, at 117 turn, killed many enemies and barbarians and declared war to the Arabs and Copenhagen almost near the beginning I know that's crazy, the Arabs asked for peace even and I feel my feet has lifted off from the floor...

But it's overheating, Ati 4870 card shot up top 72 degree is it still acceptable?
