Civilization V

i was going to install Civ3 on my lappy tonight and ive gone and picked up Civ3:PTW by mistake... So now i cant play it unless i drive back home and find the right cd.

damn i wish my laptop would run Civ5

Surely 400 GPT is very easy... if you aren't actually using it on maintanence for buildings and units. Which leads me to the question, why aren't you using it for that? You could build/maintain an awful lot of buildings with 400 GPT, and obviously with your giant vault ally with an awful lot of city states.
Why build a shed load of buildings and units that aren't needed?

Finished my play session for today, i'm now up to the heady heights of 13 gpt , 1507ad , huge earth map, epic length, emperor difficulty, Germany. 4 main civilizations left though and I'm just about holding onto 2nd place at the moment.

Civnet for the win! ;)

Any idea where it's possible to buy this game? Used to have a copy but it's long gone and it's the only Civ game my dad likes.

Units perhaps but buildings? Since when couldn't you do with Culture buildings? Or Happiness buildings to boost your culture gain with the appropriate policy? Or Military buildings (though you obviously don't need them in every city). Hell even science buildings if you think you aren't advancing fast enough already. I mean what are you doing with 400 GPT? You could buy off every city state for the rest of the game with that much.

exactly, if you got it use it! cuz it you cant take it with you..

what type of game settings are people using? i was addicted to this game the first couple of days but im starting to get sick of how aggressive all the ai players are.... all everyone wants to do is go to war with me and everyone else regardless, i liberated germany from rome for a laugh and gave her almost all her cities back, within 5 turns she was barking angry and insulting me again what gives? does civ 5 have any room for peace and diplomacy?

Same here. I've stopped playing until they sort out the AI.

I started getting that after the first update. Only happens when I have a treaty that has expired but i'm still giving them resources for 30 turns.

The game settings that I am playing on the most are,

Emperor
Huge earth map
Epic game length
Random civilization for me and the ai
All victory types
Must kill cities and units for conquer
Start bias disabled so that its totally random start locations
Random seed enabled.

Still loving it :)

Got that too. Wasting precious resources churning out units for a war machine when I'm shooting for a cultural victory.

Fine, I understand that it makes sense to protect your civilization from warmongers even if you're a peace loving civilization, but when four declare on you at once it's just annoying.

Lastly, when you push back their badly organised attacks and go on the offensive, out comes the 10 round peace treaty. Half the time though, they'll give up all of their resources and cities for no reason and it's hard not to take advantage of the poor AI when you know in another 30 turns they'll be knocking on the door again with another ill-conceived invasion.

in the old civ games didnt it used to tell you how the ai civilizations viewed you? and you could give them gifts to make them like you.

its not a feature of Civ V is it?

Very easy, but I dont think 400 gpt is possible.

Easily, with the civic that makes trade routes better and simply always improving your cities:

Okay it's a golden age, but even with a fairly sized army and no golden age it's still 400+. It's a matter of hardly or never allowing your cities to work unimproved tiles and ALWAYS connect everything to the trade network, when your workers are hanging about you can go ahead and build roads to your future cities too.

Around Medieval-renaissance it should be at least 75+ per turn or you're doing something wrong imo.

This is my second game, not exactly sure on the difficulty, either prince or the level that is 1 step easier than prince. Still far too easy imo.

Oh, and maritime city states are the bomb! I never conquer those, I want my cities to have at least 10 free food per turn :D.

And yeah I conquered the Japanese who were acting tough, they first eliminated Rome and brought down france from like 15 to 5 cities) and then attacking my allied city states, as a result I have 15+ puppet cities of them and they only have like 5 remaining which will be mine soon too :D, their empire was in tatters.

Yep :(.

Btw anyone else find it retarded how re-baseing works for planes. Eg. a fighter has a range of 8, why can I only re-base it to a city 8 tiles away and not 16 ? Surely if it can fly somewhere, bomb the jerries, and fly back, it can fly 16 tiles not 8 ?

I don't know why it is, but I've just never had that happen. Even now in my current game I am at war with siam , I've bashed and battered them, taken their capital and 2nd city, reduced them down to just 4 cities now and they still haven't ever offered me anything beyond a 10 turn peace. No resources, no cities. If I try asking for peace and one city or resource they tell me to shove it :)

Wow odd, Suleiman was attacking my allied city state, so I sent only 2 cavalry ( was busy myself with japan) and conquered a couple of lightly defended towns ( he was busy waging war with cathy), he offered 10 turns peace after I took his 3rd city along with a lot of gold, and resources.

When I was punishing japan for being an arse they offered sameish when I took 1 city and had at least 15 units on their borders, I refused and went on, when I took about 5-10 cities they offered peace + half their remaining empire, all their gold and resources... I accepted and declared war again 10 turns later to conquer the rest.

Yeah I've no idea why I'm not experiencing some of the things that others are. Maybe it because I play on emperor, maybe its something to do with the huge earth map, or maybe I've got the only working copy of civ 5 :D no idea , but probably goes a long way to explaining why I am much happier with the game than most I suppose.

The alternative was far worse - caught in a permanent peace treaty. Ruined one of my favourite games! This started happening straight after they brought out the first patch which addressed the initial bug, so I'm assuming it's a side effect - but one I can live with :D

why is it AI is so hard to get right these days? Both F1 2010 and Civ5 have complaints about the AI being a bit rubbish, yet older civ titles and GP2 managed AI fine back in the day of 100mhz processors.

What gives?
